    Abstract : Renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a common malignancy worldwide, affects 1200 new patients yearly in Sweden. Metastatic RCC (mRCC) develops in one in three and is commonly incurable. Clear cell histology dominates followed by papillary histology. READ MORE

  2. 2. Preoperative radiotherapy in rectal cancer : aspects on fractionation and timing of surgery

    Author : Johan Erlandsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neo-adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) in rectal cancer (RC) reduces the risk for local recurrence (LR). The optimal fractionation or time to surgery is not determined. The focus areas of this thesis are different RT-courses and timing of surgery in patients with RC. The Stockholm III trial forms the basis of the studies included in the thesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Preoperative radiotherapy in rectal cancer : aspects of different regimens

    Author : David Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In Sweden approximately 2000 patients are annually diagnosed with a rectal cancer. The main treatment of the cancer is surgery. Radiotherapy (RT) is used as an adjuvant treatment in >60% of these patients to improve local control and in some patients to downsize a primary non resectable tumour to facilitate surgery. 4. 4. Improving the therapeutic ratio of stereotactic radiosurgery and radiotherapy

    Author : Bahram Andisheh; Bengt Lind; John Hopewell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimization; stereotactic radiosurgery; stereotactic radiotherapy; radiobiology; modeling; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : New methods of high dose delivery, such as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) or stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), hadron therapy, tomotherapy, etc., all make use of a few large fractions. READ MORE

    Abstract : In Sweden annually over 500 people will be diagnosed with the malignant brain tumor glioma. They are graded from I-IV. The majority are glioblastoma (grade IV) (GBM), these being the most aggressive type. Median survival for those treated with standard of care is expected to be around 15 months. READ MORE
