  1. 1. Experimental and theoretical study of carbides in the Co-Cr-C system : Structure, alloying and stability

    Author : Bartek Kaplan; Malin Selleby; Jan Qvick; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis explores the structure, alloying and stability of the carbides in the Co-Cr-C system by using the CALPHAD approach supported by experimental measurements and ab initio calculations.WC-Co based cemented carbide materials consist of hard WC grains and a ductile Co-based binder. 2. 2. Point defect interactions and structural stability of compounds

    Author : Vitaly Baykov; Börje Johansson; Peter Mohn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; first principles; ab initio; density functional theory; point defects interactions; diluted magnetic semiconductors; structural stability; zirconium alloys; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Theoretical studies of point defect interactions and structural stability of compounds have been performed using density functional theory. The defect-related properties, such as activation energy of diffusion, electronic and magnetic structure of selected materials have been studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. On New Implants - The results of five prospective, randomized RSA trials with aspects on phased introduction and continuous migration

    Author : Mats Molt; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; New total knee arthroplasty; TKA; RSA; randomized; prospective; prediction; continuously migrating; safety; stability CR; PS; PF; PA; short stem; tourniquet;

    Abstract : A concern that arises with any change in design or operative technique is whether it affects the long-term implant stability or not. One way to address this is, by measuring early micromotion, to predict the future revision rate. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry : Exploring the Limits of Different Sample Preparation Strategies

    Author : Barbro Kollander; Jean Pettersson; Marit Andersson; Jonas Bergquist; Grethe Wibetoe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multi element analysis; trace element; ICP-AES; inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectromtery; water analysis; liver analysis; non digested samples; medical samples; biological samples; samples from biopsies and autopsies; mice organ; fast analysis; internal standard; preconcentration; matrix elimination; Cu; Zn; Mn; Co; Pb; Cd; Mg; Ca; Fe; Ni; Cr; S; P; K; Al; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Equilibrium aspects of Cr-alloyed cemented carbides

    Author : Bartek Kaplan; Malin Selleby; Armando F. Guillermet; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : In view of the extensive use of Cr as a grain growth inhibitor in WC-Co cemented carbides this thesis comprises a combined experimental and ab initio study of a number of critical issues pertaining to phase equilibria of the subsystems to the W-Co-Cr-C system.To be able to predict which of the stable Cr-carbides forms above the solubility limits of Cr and C in the fcc phase the respective solubility of Co in Cr23C6, Cr7C3 and Cr3C2 are investigated experimentally.
