21. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties
Abstract : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds. 22. Bilayer Discs - Fundamental Investigations and Applications of Nanosized Membrane Models
Abstract : The bilayer disc is a flat, lipid aggregate structure in the nanometre regime. It is composed of a bilayer of amphiphilic molecules with micelle-forming amphiphilic molecules supporting the rim, which prevent disc fusion and self-closure. READ MORE

23. Targeting Infectious Disease : Structural and functional studies of proteins from two RNA viruses and Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Abstract : The recent emergence of a number of new viral diseases as well as the re-emergence of tuberculosis (TB), indicate an urgent need for new drugs against viral and bacterial infections.Coronavirus nsp1 has been shown to induce suppression of host gene expression and interfere with host immune response. 24. Studies on the mechanisms of action and physiological relevance of SOCS proteins
Abstract : Understanding systemic biological pathways and the key cellular mechanisms that dictate disease states, drug response, and altered cellular function in metabolic disorders is a significant challenge. Research in the last 20 years have made it clear that tissue communication, through the actions of endocrine, paracrine or autocrine factors play a significant role in pathogenesis of complex multiorgan diseases such as the metabolic syndrome. 25. Molecular pharmacology of amiodarone
Abstract : Amiodarone (Am) is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug. Its use is limited due to serious side effects and it was therefore used only when other therapeutic interventions proved to be ineffective. READ MORE
