  1. 1. Earning, caring, and the quest for sustainable societies : Toward stable evolution?

    Author : Pernilla Tunberger; Joakim Palme; Christina Bergqvist; Kimberly Morgan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; work family reconciliation; family policy; labor market liberalization; flexicurity; gender; equality; social policy; institutional change; institutional analysis; feminist institutionalism; multiple equilibria; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Abstract : This thesis studies changing conditions for earning and caring in Italy and Sweden, two cases out of a population of European welfare states facing similar challenges and processes of labor market liberalization affecting conditions for earning, but also for caring. Focus is on how such processes of change affect individual living conditions for earning and caring, as well as on how societies change as a result of changing individual living conditions. 2. 2. Stable iterated function systems

    Author : Erland Gadde; Hans Wallin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hausdorff metric; iterated function system IFS ; attractor; invariant set; address; Hutchinson’s metric; we a k* -topology; IFS with probabilities; invariant measure; the Random Iteration Algorithm;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to generalize the growing theory of iterated function systems (IFSs). Earlier, hyperbolic IFSs with finitely many functions have been studied extensively. Also, hyperbolic IFSs with infinitely many functions have been studied. In this thesis, more general IFSs are studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Noise sensitivity and FK-type representations for Gaussian and stable processes

    Author : Malin Palö Forsström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; color representation; exclusion process; color process; Noise sensitivity; threshold stable vector; volatility; noise stability; interchange process; threshold Gaussian vector; multivariate stable distribution; Bernoulli random vector; mixing time;

    Abstract : This thesis contains four papers on probability theory. Paper A concerns the question of whether the exclusion sensitivity and exclusion stability of a sequence of Boolean functions are monotone with respect to adding edges to the underlying sequence of graphs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Zooplankton growth and trophic linkages : Implications for fish feeding conditions in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Towe Holmborn; Elena Gorokhova; Sture Hansson; Ilppo Vuorinen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AARS activity; biochemical markers; Clupea harengus; copepod physiology; food web interactions; non-indigenous species; RNA-based indices; Sprattus sprattus; stable isotopes; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this Thesis was to improve our understanding and assessment of feeding conditions for zooplanktivorous fish in the Baltic Sea.We investigated (papers I, II) the usefulness of biochemical proxies for assessments of growth and metabolic rates in the dominant Baltic copepod Acartia bifilosa. 5. 5. Microalgal solutions in Nordic conditions : industries transition toward resource recovery?

    Author : Lina Mattsson; Catherine Legrand; Elin Lindehoff; Hanna Farnelid; Kristian Spilling; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microalgae; algal cultivation; polyculture; resource recovery; seasonal variation; industrial partnership; CO2 mitigation; nitrogen removal; community composition; Ecology; Ekologi; Environmental Biotechnology; Miljöbioteknik; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Microalgal solutions can through photosynthesis recover greenhouse gas (CO2) and nutrients from industrial waste, reducing climate footprint and eutrophication. An added value to the process is algal biomass containing lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates with commercial potential for biofuel, feed, and fertilizer. READ MORE
