  1. 1. Vegetation and climate during Weichselian ice free intervals in northern Sweden : Interpretations from fossil and modern pollen records

    Author : Martina Hättestrand; Ann-Marie Robertsson; Donatella Magri; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Weichselian; interstadial; stadial; glacial history; northern Sweden; Tärendö; Riipiharju; Rissejauratj; Veiki moraine; pollen analysis; pollen deposition; pollen trap; PAR; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis the Weichselian history of northern Sweden is investigated, with emphasis on vegetation and climate during ice-free intervals. The main method used has been pollen analysis of sediments from pre-Late Weichselian landforms. To interpret fossil pollen assemblages, comparisons with modern pollen spectra were made. READ MORE

  2. 2. Deglacial impact of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet on the North Atlantic climate system

    Author : Francesco Muschitiello; Barbara Wohlfarth; Raimund Muscheler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate; North Atlantic; last deglaciation; isotope geochemistry; chronology; climate modeling; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Abstract : The long warming transition from the Last Ice Age into the present Interglacial period, the last deglaciation, holds the key to our understanding of future abrupt climate change. In the last decades, a great effort has been put into deciphering the linkage between freshwater fluxes from melting ice sheets and rapid shifts in global ocean-atmospheric circulation that characterized this puzzling climate period. 3. 3. Climate in the eastern Mediterranean during the Holocene and beyond – A Peloponnesian perspective

    Author : Martin Finné; Karin Holmgren; Hanna S. Sundqvist; Georgia Destouni; Neil Roberts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable isotopes; U-Th dating; stalagmites; climate variability; flooding history; eastern Mediterranean; southern Greece; Holocene; Pleistocene; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes increased knowledge about climate variability during the late Quaternary in the eastern Mediterranean. Results from a paleoclimate review reveal that regional wetter conditions from 6000 to 5400 years BP were replaced by a less wet period from 5400 to 4600 years BP and to fully arid conditions around 4600 years BP. 4. 4. Extending dynamic vegetation models to simulate range shifts

    Author : Deborah Zani; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dynamic vegetation model; range shift; migration; paleovegetation;

    Abstract : In response to rapid climate change and increasing human pressure, a wide variety of taxa have shifted their distribution in the past decades (range shift), with important consequences for ecosystem services and human health and economy. However, it is not yet clear whether most species will be able to track their favourable habitats or lag behind the climate signal (migration lag). READ MORE
