Abstract : The "inappropriate" use of emergency departments (EDs) - for non urgent or minor ailments and high-frequency use, "heavy use" - is causing great concern to several Western countries, irrespective of differing health care systems. Through a trial at Huddinge Hospital, about a quarter of the patients who sought care at the ED during day-time were classified by the reception staff as non-urgent cases in the sense of not needing the special resources of an emergency department. Abstract : Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a common condition in the Western world and an important cause of sudden death. Recent research emphasizes that although women are inherently less likely to develop AAA, those who do develop AAA seem to have a more unfavorable aneurysm disease than men with higher rupture risk and also exhibit higher standardized mortality ratio after intervention.
