  1. 1. An experimental investigation of flow in a Kaplan runner : steady-state and transient

    Author : Kaveh Amiri; Bjarne Børresen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Water turbines are since some years widely used for grid stabilization purposes according to their exceptional load variation capability which gives them the ability to compensate grid fluctuations initiated by the customer’s consumption or intermittent electricity production systems such as wind and solar power. Different renewable power generation technologies can be combined in mini-grids to electrify isolated villages and extend existing grid networks. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structure Evolution during Phase Separation and Gelation of Biopolymer Mixtures

    Author : Niklas Lorén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microstructure; gelatin maltodextrin; biopolymer mixtures; structure evolution; phase separation; stereology; confocal laser scanning microscopy; image analysis; spinodal decomposition; transmission electron microscopy; gelation;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the kinetics of phase separation and gelation in aqueous mixtures of gelatin and maltodextrin. The structure evolution of these mixtures at different length scales was recorded by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The microstructure was quantified by image analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Transients in high head Francis turbines

    Author : Chiragkumar Trivedi; Fredrik Engström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : On demand energy market and favourable government policies to encourage the usage of renewable energy have led to a dramatic increase of grid connected wind, solar, and other power in recent years. Penetration of the power above manageable limit, produced using intermittent energy sources, to meet the demand has induced instable grid operations. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterization of Chimney Flue Gas Flows : Flow Rate Measurements with Averaging Pitot Probes

    Author : Janne Paavilainen; Chris Bales; Jan-Olof Dalenbäck; Lennart Gustavsson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flue gas; measurement; characterization; averaging Pitot tube; SolNET;

    Abstract : Performance testing methods of boilers in transient operating conditions (start, stop and combustion power modulation sequences) need the combustion rate quantified to allow for the emissions to be quantified. One way of quantifying the combustion rate of a boiler during transient operating conditions is by measuring the flue gas flow rate. READ MORE

  5. 5. Front seat passengers’ experience of ride comfort and NVH in modern cars

    Author : Xiaojuan Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ride comfort; Sound and Vibration;

    Abstract : Due to the refinements in combustion-engine and electric cars, ride comfort has become a prominent attribute when it comes to developing cars in the future. A variety of factors, such as seat, seatbelt, sound and vibration, have been shown to influence perceived overall ride comfort in passenger cars. READ MORE
