11. Computational studies of passive vortex generators for flow control
Abstract : Many flow cases in fluid dynamics face undesirable flow separation due torising static pressure on wall boundaries. This occurs e.g. due to geometry as ina highly curved turbine inlet duct or e. READ MORE

12. Linking Probability Theory and Quantum Mechanics, and a Novel Formulation of Quantization
Abstract : This doctoral thesis in mathematics consists of three articles that explore the probabilistic structure of quantum mechanics and quantization from a novel perspective. The thesis adopts a probabilistic interpretation of quantum mechanics, which views the archetypical quantum experiments of Bell- and double-slit- type as violating the principle of non-contextuality, i. 13. Thermodynamics of Protein Folding and Design
Abstract : The protein folding and protein design problems are addressed, using coarse-grained models with only two types of amino acids, hydrophobic and hydrophilic. In addition to hydrophobicity forces, the models contain sequence-independent local interactions which are found to strongly influence the thermodynamics of these models. READ MORE

14. Variational Methods in Combinatorial Optimization and Phylogeny Reconstruction
Abstract : Algorithms based on the variational approach, as used in statistical physics, are developed. For constraint satisfaction problems a novel cost function, based on information-theoretic arguments, is introduced, and an algorithm similar to the mean-field annealing algorithm is proposed. 15. Hydrophobicity Patterns in Protein Folding
Abstract : The protein folding problem is addressed focussing on the hydro- phobicity patterns in the amino acid sequences and structures. Both real and model proteins are investigated. The hydrophobicity pattern of real proteins is probed in two ways. First, it is asked which binary pattern is most conserved within groups of related proteins. READ MORE
