1. Crossings and maxima in Gaussian fields and seas
Abstract : In this thesis the focus is on crossing points in random fields and the probability distributions of various crossing variables in different applications. The crossing points are generalisations to random fields of points of level crossings by stochastic processes. READ MORE

2. Exploring student collaboration during Data Generation in the Statistics Classroom : An Inferentialist Perspective
Abstract : This dissertation explores student collaboration during data generation in statistics. The first aim is to put the semantic theory of inferentialism to work and develop a theoretical lens for exploring student collaboration during data generation. READ MORE

3. VAR Models, Cointegration and Mixed-Frequency Data
Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers that study two aspects of vector autoregressive (VAR) modeling: cointegration and mixed-frequency data.Paper I develops a method for estimating a cointegrated VAR model under restrictions implied by the economy under study being a small open economy. 4. Space-Time Prediction of Ocean Winds
Abstract : The topic of this thesis is inspired by an experiment in which a vessel, laying a submarine cable, was provided with forecasts overlaid with satellite observations of significant wave height. During the operation, the vessel was close to an adverse weather area and the personnel on board could confirm that the forecast was not as close to the "ground truth" as the satellite observation was. 5. Models and Methods for Random Fields in Spatial Statistics with Computational Efficiency from Markov Properties
Abstract : The focus of this work is on the development of new random field models and methods suitable for the analysis of large environmental data sets. A large part is devoted to a number of extensions to the newly proposed Stochastic Partial Differential Equation (SPDE) approach for representing Gaussian fields using Gaussian Markov Random Fields (GMRFs).
