  1. 1. Statistical modeling in international large-scale assessments

    Author : Inga Laukaityte; Marie Wiberg; Kenny Bränberg; Ewa Rolfsman; Bernard Veldkamp; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multilevel model; plausible values; sampling weights; missing information; multiple imputation; non-monotone missing pattern; TIMSS; PISA; Statistics; statistik; pedagogik; Education;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the area of research based on large-scale educational assessments, focusing on the application of multilevel models. The role of sampling weights, plausible values (response variable imputed multiple times) and imputation methods are demonstrated by simulations and applications to TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) data. Abstract : The steel industry is in constant need of improving its production processes. This is partly due to increasing competition and partly due to environmental concerns. One commonly used method for improving these processes is through the act of modeling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modeling of inorganic ions in aqueous solution

    Author : Vidar Aspelin; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylsimulering; statistisk mekanik; termodynamik; oorganiska joner; vattenlösningar; Kirkwood-Buff-teori; beräkningar av fri energi; molecular simulation; statistical mechanics; thermodynamics; inorganic ions; aqueous solutions; Kirkwood-Buff theory; free energy calculations;

    Abstract : Essentially all chemical processes and reactions occurring in the environment take place in the presence of ions. In water, ions set the conditions for how other dissolved particles interact. Ions are also directly involved in chemical reactions affecting the climate such as ozone depletion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sensitivity Analysis and Material Parameter Estimation using Electromagnetic Modelling

    Author : Therese Sjödén; Sven Nordebo; Börje Nilsson; Margaret Cheney; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sensitivity analysis; material parameter; Fisher information; Cramér-Rao bound; electromagnetic modelling; grain angle; wood; electrical impedance tomography; inverse problems; känslighetsanalys; estimering; materialparameter; Fisher- information; Cramér-Rao-gränsen; elektromagnetisk modellering; fibervinkel; trä; elektrisk impedanstomografi; inversa problem; Waves; Signals and Systems; Vågor; signaler och system;

    Abstract : Estimating parameters is the problem of finding their values from measurements and modelling. Parameters describe properties of a system; material, for instance, are defined by mechanical, electrical, and chemical parameters. Fisher information is an information measure, giving information about how changes in the parameter effect the estimation. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis aims at characterizing tridimensional (3D) printed polymers onto PET textile materials via fused deposition modeling (FDM) that uses both non-conductive and conductive polymers, optimizing their mechanical and electrical properties through statistical modeling and enhancing them with pre and post-treatments and the development of polymer blends. This research work supports the development of technical textiles through 3D printing that may have functionalities. READ MORE
