  1. 11. Factors Regulating Neurogenesis in Intact and Pathological Brain: Role of TNF-alpha

    Author : Robert Iosif; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : During the last decade it has been clearly demonstrated that the adult brain contains neural stem cells (NSCs) localized mainly in two regions: the subgranular zone in the dentate gyrus and the subventricular zone (SVZ) lining the lateral ventricles. In the intact brain, these NSCs give rise to new dentate granule cells and olfactory bulb neurons, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 12. Temperature management after cardiac arrest, postanoxic injury and neurological recovery

    Author : Anna Lybeck; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; target temperature mangement; outcome; neuroprognostication; seizures; EEG; Cardiac arrest; target temperature mangement; outcome; neuroprognostication; seizures; EEG;

    Abstract : In patients admitted alive to hospital after cardiac arrest the most common mode of death is withdrawal of life sustaining therapy due to brain injury. This decicion is preceeed by multimodal neuroprognostication, which includes clinical examination, neurophysiological tests, imagning and serum markers of braininjury. READ MORE

  3. 13. Neurogenesis from Neural Stem Cells, Ependymal Cells and Fibroblasts

    Author : Karthikeyan Devaraju; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adult neurogenesis; stroke; neural stem cells; Lnk; ependymal cells; FoxJ1; cortical reprogramming;

    Abstract : Stroke is a major cause of death and disability around the world. Stroke leads to loss of neurons and also other cells in the brain due to lack of blood supply. Currently no therapies are available to treat stroke-related disability. It has been shown that stroke leads to increased neurogenesis, birth of new neurons, within the brain. READ MORE

  4. 14. Cerebral Venous Thrombosis - Complications and Outcomes

    Author : Erik Lindgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebral venous thrombosis; complications; outcome; seizures; return to work; dural arteriovenous fistula; follow-up;

    Abstract : Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a relatively rare cause of stroke, which predominantly affects working-aged adults and particularly women. The clinical course is highly miscellaneous. Data from large cohorts are scarce and knowledge on CVT complications and outcomes are limited. READ MORE

  5. 15. Advancing gene therapy for epilepsy. Translational pre-clinical studies with neuropeptide Y and glial cell-line derived neurotrophic factor

    Author : Esbjörn Melin; Epilepsicentrum; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epilepsy; Gene Therapy; neuropeptide Y NPY ; Y2 receptor; GDNF; Encapsulated cell biodelivery; seizure; In-vivo;

    Abstract : Epilepsy is a neurological disorder, affecting approximately 1% of the population. The high rate of drug-resistance in epilepsy in general (30%), and temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in particular, pose a serious clinical problem. Thus, novel treatments for drug-resistant epilepsy is highly warranted. READ MORE
