  1. 11. Analytical and Numerical Investigations of Steady and Unsteady Turbulent Swirling Flow in Diffusers

    Author : Walter Gyllenram; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; draft tube; diffuser; LES; vortex breakdown; turbulence; CFD; swirling flow;

    Abstract : Swirling flows are found in many technical applications, e.g. turbines, pumps, fans, compressors and combustors. The objective of the present work is to acquire an understanding of the physics of swirling flow in general and unsteady swirling flow in draft tubes of water turbines in particular. READ MORE

  2. 12. Runge–Kutta Time Step Selection for Flow Problems

    Author : Karl Hörnell; Per Lötstedt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Runge-Kutta; stepsize selection; optimization; flow problems; numerical analysis; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : Optimality is studied for Runge-Kutta iteration for solving steady-state and time dependent flow problems. For the former type an algorithm for determining locally optimal time steps is developed, based on the fact that the squared norm of the residual produced by an m-stage scheme is a 2m-degree polynomial, the coefficients of which can be computed from scalar products of Krylov subspace vectors. 3. 13. Stability and transition in pitching wings

    Author : Prabal Negi; Dan Henningson; Ardeshir Hanifi; Philipp Schlatter; Olivier Marquet; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Aerospace Engineering; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : The aeroelastic stability of airplanes is one of the most important aspects of airplane design. Flutter or divergence instabilities arising out of the interaction of fluid forces and structural elasticity must be avoided by design or through the limitation of the flight envelope. READ MORE

  4. 14. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Author : Jim Hedfors; Veijo Pohjola; Else Kolstrup; Niels Reeh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 5. 15. Investigation of perforated mufflers and plates

    Author : Ying Guo; Mast Abom; Ragnar Glav; KTH; []
    Keywords : sound; perforated; micro-perforated; muffler; flow; hole; impedance; model; experiment;

    Abstract :     Mufflers are used in for instance exhaust system of cars or trucks to reduce noise. Perforated pipes are one of the main components of modern mufflers. To study acoustic properties of mufflers with perforated pipe is one of the main targets of this thesis. READ MORE
