  1. 1. An Experimental and Theoretical Study of Decentralized Gas Fired Liquid Heating

    Author : Rolf Christensen; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; liquid heating.; efficiency; environmental impact; emissions; corrugated tube; heat transfer augmentation; heat transfer enhancement; energy conservation; decentralized heating; Natural gas; steam replacement; gas firing; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen;

    Abstract : The effects on the energy situation in industry when gas fired liquid heaters replace steam have been determined by energy surveys performed in a brewery and a slaughterhouse, measurements of the performance and emissions from liquid heaters installed in these industries, and theoretical analyses of the potential energy saving. The theoretical study in the first part of the project provides information that allows assessment of the effects on the energy situation, of part or complete conversion to decentralized heating, under the conditions prevailing in the industries concerned. 2. 2. Evaluation of UHT milk processed by direct steam injection and steam infusion technology

    Author : Bozena Malmgren; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sedimentation; gel formation; microstructure; TEM transmission electron microscopy; immunogold labelling; heat effects; Technological sciences; Teknik; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; proteolysis; steam infusion; UHT milk; steam injection;

    Abstract : UHT direct steam injection and steam infusion are widely used; however there is no comparison of their impact on milk components. This study evaluates the structural changes at different steps during the UHT processing of whole milk in a full-scale UHT plant by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle size measurements, and follows the enzymatic activity. 3. 3. Mild Steam Explosion of Norway Spruce

    Author : Kerstin Jedvert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kraft cooking; biorefinery; steam explosion; galacto glucomannan; Norway spruce;

    Abstract : The most common wood species in Sweden, and one of the most important renewable raw materials in Northern Europe, is Norway spruce (Picea abies). Today, it is utilized mainly for sawed timber and the production of pulp and paper. READ MORE

  4. 4. Solar integrated heating systems: Applications in buildings and industries

    Author : Puneet Kumar Saini; Joakim Widén; Xingxing Zhang; Frank Fiedler; Thomas Olofsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : “Heat is half” of the global final energy consumption, and the decarbonization of the heating sector is critical to achieving climate goals. This thesis employs a system modelling approach to evaluate renewable heating systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Steam Turbine Optimisation for Solar Thermal Power Plant Operation

    Author : James Spelling; Andrew Martin; Magnus Genrup; KTH; []
    Keywords : solar thermal power; steam-turbine; start-up; cool-down; dispatchability increase; koncentrerad solenergi; ångturbin; uppstart; nedkylning; ökad flexibilitet;

    Abstract : The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most important issues facing humanity at the current time, given the strong dependence of social and economic prosperity on the availability of affordable energy and the growing environmental concerns about its production. Solar thermal power has established itself as a viable source of renewable power, capable of generating electricity at some of the most economically attractive rates. READ MORE
