  1. 1. High temperature corrosion in biomass-fired energy applications : Alloying effects and test environment comparisons

    Author : Ragna Elger; Rachel Pettersson; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Rikard Norling; Gordon Tatlock; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High temperature corrosion; biomass; waste; superheater corrosion; austenitic steel; biomass gasification; alumina-forming austenitic stainless steel; thermodynamic modelling; kinetic modelling; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : To reduce the greenhouse effect, the use of renewable fuel has to be increased. As renewable fuel has different characteristics compared to fossil fuel regarding content of trace metals, alkali, chlorine and sulphur, the corrosion characteristics in high temperature energy processes have to be evaluated. 2. 2. Passivation of Austenitic Stainless Steel

    Author : Lena Wegrelius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; chloride; molybdenum; passivation; hydrochloric acid; nitrogen; ESCA; dissolution;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study the corrosion resistance and passivation of high alloyed austenitic stainless steels exposed to hydrochloric acid. The introductory section gives a background to the subject; electrochemical measurements and surface analysis by the ESCA-technique (Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis). READ MORE

  3. 3. Phase separation in duplex stainless steel: characterization and mitigation

    Author : Jianling Liu; Peter Hedström; Joakim Odqvist; Wangzhong Mu; Aniruddha Biswas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; duplex stainless steel; 475 °C embrittlement; phase separation; small-angle neutron scattering; mechanical properties; alloying elements; cooling rate; magnetic field; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is a category of widely used stainlesssteel, which are strategically important in a variety of applications such asin the food industry, chemical engineering plants and nuclear power plants,due to their attractive combination of mechanical properties and corrosionresistance. However, these steel grades are sensitive to the so-called ‘475°Cembrittlement’, because of a phase separation (PS) phenomenon in theferrite phase, which decomposes into Fe-rich ferrite (α) and Cr-rich ferrite(α'), when exposed to temperatures within the miscibility gap. 4. 4. Workpiece steels protecting cutting tools from wear : A study of the effects of alloying elements on material transfer and coating damage mechanisms

    Author : Toshiharu Aiso; Staffan Jacobson; Urban Wiklund; Staffan Söderberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metal cutting; Steel; Cutting tools; Transfer; Coating; Sliding; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Abstract : The vision of this thesis is to improve the machinability of workpiece steels. Workpiece material frequently transfers to the cutting tools during machining, and the transfer layers then forming on the tools may give both good and bad effects on machining performance and tool life. 5. 5. Microstructure and high temperature properties of Mo(Si,Al)2 - The effect of particle strengthening and alloying

    Author : Aina Edgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microstructure; particle strengthening; Mo Si; Al 2; oxidation; alloying; high temperature mechanical properties;

    Abstract : High temperature heating processes within the steel industries result in significant emissions of CO2, primarily due to the combustion of fossil fuels. Electrification of these processes, such as through the implementation of resistive heating elements, holds great promise for reducing emissions. READ MORE
