  1. 1. Bracing of steel bridges during construction; theory, full-scale tests and simulations

    Author : Hassan Mehri; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bracing; steel-concrete composite; steel; bridge; test; construction; laboratory; experiment; experimental; theory;

    Abstract : A number of steel bridges have suffered lateral-torsional failure during their construction due to their lacking adequate lateral and/or rotational stiffness. In most cases, slight bracing can be of great benefit to the main girders involved through their controlling out-of-plane deformations and enabling the resistance that is needed to be achieved. 2. 2. Thin-Film Coated Steel Foils as Interconnects for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC)

    Author : Rakshith Nugehalli Sachitanand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Interconnect; Fuel Cell; Energy; SOFC; Steel; Corrosion;

    Abstract : Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are electrochemical energy conversion devices that have the potential to achieve high efficiencies while using a broad range of fuels. The advancement of the technology has however been hindered by a number of technical and economic barriers, one of which is the durability and cost of the bipolar plate or interconnect that connects individual cells in series to form a so-called ‘stack’. 3. 3. Hardening of Carbon Steel by Water Impinging Jet Quenching Technique : Differential Cooling of Steel Sheets and Quenching of Cylindrical Bars

    Author : Pavel Romanov; Mattias Calmunger; Bahram Moshfegh; Viktor Norman; Ru Peng; Peter Hedström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Differential cooling; Impinging jet quenching; Microstructure gradient; Hardening;

    Abstract : Austenitization followed by quenching is a well-known conventional heat-treating procedure which is widely used on carbon steels with the aim to obtain high strength in as-quenched condition. Such quenching is usually done by immersing a steel product into the cooling medium which provides a uniform cooling of the surface. READ MORE

  4. 4. Additive metallurgy - Thermal influences on structure and properties of stainless steel 316L

    Author : Jon Olsén; Zhijian James Shen; Dongdong Gu; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Additive manufacturing; Selective laser melting; Electron beam melting; Hot isostatic pressing; Stainless steel; Microstructural heterogeneity; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing (AM) as a manufacturing process has, in recent years, become widely accepted as capable of manufacturing parts that will be used in end products. In this thesis, stainless steel grade 316L parts are manufactured using two different powder bed fusion techniques, selective laser melting (SLM) and electron beam melting (EBM). READ MORE

  5. 5. The interdependence of plastic behaviour and final properties of steel wire, analysed by the finite element method

    Author : Henrik Överstam; Magnus Jarl; Sven-Erik Lundberg; Chunhui Luo; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : Technology; FEM; defects; steel wire; wire drawing; rolling; forging; Teknikvetenskap; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Maskinteknik; Mechanical Engineering;

    Abstract : The finite element method (FEM) has been used in order to study the interdependence of plastic behaviour and final properties in steel wire. Three processes metal forming have been studied: billet forging, wire rod rolling, and cold drawing. READ MORE
