  1. 1. A study of mold flux entrapment and gas entrainment in an ingot casting process

    Author : Jun Yin; Mikael Ersson; Pär Jönsson; Yogeshwar Sahai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mold flux entrapments; CFD; Gas entrainment; Ingot casting process; Uphill teeming process; Side teeming process; Numerical simulation; Non-metallic inclusions; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The focus of this work is to study the gas entrainment and mold flux entrapments during the ingot filling process based on physical and numerical modelling.The formation of the free surface was investigated in the uphill teeming method, which illustrates a dynamic change at a quasi-steady state. 2. 2. Effect of swirling blade on flow pattern in nozzle for up-hill teeming

    Author : Line Hallgren; Pär Jönsson; Jonas Alexis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swirling flow; up-hill teeming; nozzle; casting; fluid flow; modelling; CFD; LDA.; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The fluid flow in the mold during up-hill teeming is of great importance for the quality of the cast ingot and therefore the quality of the final steel products. At the early stage of the filling of an up-hill teeming mold, liquid steel enters, with high velocity, from the runner into the mold and the turbulence on the meniscus could lead to entrainment of mold flux. 3. 3. Influence of microstructure on fatigue and ductility properties of tool steels

    Author : Mats Randelius; Rolf Sandström; Jens Bergström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tool steels; fatigue; ductility; carbides; carbide cluster; inclusion; size distribution; modelling; FEM; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : Fatigue and ductility properties in various tool steels, produced by powder metallurgy, spray forming or conventionally ingot casting, have been analysed experimentally and successfully compared to developed models. The models are able to predict the fatigue limit and cause for fatigue fracture, and strain- and stress-development until fracture during the ductile fracture process respectively. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the shrinkage of metals and its effect in solidification processing

    Author : Anders Lagerstedt; Hasse Fredriksson; Alec Mitchell Mitchell; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; material science; mechanical engineering; metallurgy; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The shrinkage during solidification of aluminium and iron based alloys has been studied experimentally and theoretically. The determined shrinkage behaviour has been used in theoretical evaluation of shrinkage related phenomena during solidification. Air gap formation was experimentally studied in cylindrical moulds.
