21. Auxiliary Cells for the Vascularization and Function of Endogenous and Transplanted Islets of Langerhans
Abstract : Type 1 diabetes develops through the progressive destruction of the insulin-producing beta-cells. Regeneration or replacement of beta-cells is therefore needed to restore normal glucose homeostasis. Presently, normoglycemia can be achieved by the transplantation of whole pancreas or isolated islets of Langerhans. READ MORE

22. Epigenetics of paediatric glioma stem cells; focusing on exosomes, miRNAs and DNA methylation
Abstract : Tumours in the central nervous system are accountable for the majority of cancer-related deaths in children. Glioblastoma multiforme, one of the deadliest of the central nervous system tumours, is partly driven by glioma stem cells. The generation and maintenance of these cells is orchestrated by complex genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. READ MORE

23. Stem and progenitor cells in brain ad breast malignancies
Abstract : Stem cells have qualities that clearly distinguish them from all other cells. Capabilities like self-renewal, differentiation and migration make them truly powerful. This thesis deals with different aspects of stem/progenitor cells in relation to cancer. READ MORE

24. Development of Gene Therapy for Hematopoietic Stem Cells using Lentiviral Vectors
Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells are an ideal target for genetic manipulation for the purpose of curing hematological disorders as they have the ability to develop into all blood lineages and to self-renew. In this study we demonstrate that lentiviral vectors, based on HIV-1, can efficiently transfer genes into human hematopoietic progenitor and stem cells as assessed following stem cell transplantation in immune compromised mice. 25. Optimizing stem cells for reconstructive surgery
Abstract : Fat grafting has become an established method in plastic surgery for treating soft tissue defects. The results for survival of the fat being transplanted is unpredictable and supplementation of the graft with the Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) or cultures Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ASCs) can enhance graft viability.
