1. Experimental studies on thrombin inhibition in acute- and chronic models of vessel wall injury
Abstract : Background: The number of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) performed worldwide has increased dramatically during the last decade. Complication rates have decreased over time, however the restenosis phenomenon remains an unsolved issue. Thrombin is the key regulator in the pro-coagulant state following PCI. READ MORE

2. Invasive treatment of coronary artery disease : Aspects on antithrombotic and percutaneous treatment options
Abstract : The outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has improved considerably thanks to more effective antithrombotic treatment strategies and improved coronary stents. Stent thrombosis (ST) is a rare complication to PCI associated with considerable mortality and morbidity. READ MORE

3. Aspects on Imaging and Endovascular Treatment of Aortic Dissection and Aneurysm
Abstract : Aortic aneurysm and dissections are potentially life threatening conditions. The advent of endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) and thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has reduced perioperative mortality and morbidity and are now established therapy methods for treatment of aortic disease. 4. Genetic studies on cardiovascular disease - identification of novel drug targets
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify novel potential drug targets of cardiovascular disease with a focus on G-protein coupled receptors. We identified a common genetic variant of the ATP receptor P2Y11, where an alanine is substituted with a threonine at position 87 of the P2Y11 receptor that increases the risk of developing acute myocardial infarction. 5. Platelet Inhibition in Coronary Artery Disease – Mechanisms and Clinical Importance : Studies with Focus on P2Y12 Inhibition
Abstract : Despite the currently recommended dual antiplatelet treatment (DAT) with aspirin and P2Y12 inhibition in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) there is a risk of adverse clinical outcome. Pharmacodynamic (PD) poor response to clopidogrel occurs in ~ 30% of clopidogrel-treated patients and is associated with an increased risk of recurrent thrombotic events. READ MORE
