  1. 16. Distributed Participatory Design in Multidisciplinary Engineering Projects: Investigating a Sustainable Approach for Ship Design & Construction

    Author : Steven Mallam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; User-Centred Design; Naval Architecture; Ergonomics; Built Environment; Maritime; Industrial Design; Knowledge Transfer; Technology Acceptance;

    Abstract : Naval architecture design procedures focus primarily on the technical aspects of engineering specifications, mission requirements and overall survivability of ships and marine structures. In contrast, often little attention or importance is placed on the operational demands of onboard crew and the detailed design characteristics of a ship’s work environment. READ MORE

  2. 17. The Human Element in Marine Engine Department Operation: Human Factors & Ergonomics Knowledge Mobilization in Ship Design & Construction

    Author : Steven Mallam; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Naval Architecture; Knowledge Transfer; Participatory Ergonomics; Work Environment; Marine Engineer;

    Abstract : Physical environments influence how individuals perceive, behave and perform within an operational space and system. Marine engine department operations have dramatically developed from the initial introduction of ship mechanization in the nineteenth century, to ever increasing levels of computerized and automated functions today. 4. 19. Finite element modelling of the mechanics of solid foam materials

    Author : Steven Ribeiro-Ayeh; Dan Zenkert; Andrew M. Kraynic; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering design; point-stress criterion; bi-material interface; foam; cellular sollid; micro-mechanical modelling; Konstruktionsteknik; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Failure of bi-material interfaces is studied with the aim to quantify the influence of the induced stress concentrations on the strength of the interfaces. A simple point-stress criterion, used in conjunction with finite element calculations, is evaluated to provide strength predictions for bi-material bonded joints and inserts in polymer foam.
