  1. 11. Model-based design of haptic devices

    Author : Ahmad Aftab; Kjell Andersson; Ulf Sellgren; Per Wennhage; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Haptic device; model-based design; stiffness; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Efficient engineering design and development of high precision and reliable surgical simulators, like haptic devices for surgical training benefits from model-based and simulation driven design. The complexity of the design space, multi-domains, multicriteria requirements and multi-physics character of the behavior of such a product ask for a model based systematic approach for creating and validating compact and computationally efficient simulation models to be used for the design process. 2. 12. Micromechanical Modelling of Wood and Fibre Properties

    Author : Kent Persson; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; Microfibril angle; Density; Hygroexpansion; Stiffness; Simulation; Wood; Fibre; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Abstract : Wood is a material with mechanical properties that vary markedly, both within a tree and among trees. Moisture changes lead to shrinkage or swelling and modify the mechanical properties. READ MORE

  3. 13. Strategies for improving kraftliner pulp properties

    Author : Stefan Antonsson; Mikael E. Lindström; Gunnar Henriksson; Mats Johansson; Hans Theliander; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; lignin; xylan; kraftliner pulp; mechano-sorptive creep; hygroexpansion; stiffness; fibre shape; fibre width; lignin; xylan; kraftlinermassa; mekanosorptivt kryp; hygroexpansion; styvhet; fiberform; fiberbredd; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : A large part of the world paper manufacturing consists of production of corrugated board components, kraftliner and fluting, that are used in many different types of corrugated boxes. Because these boxes are stored and transported, they are often subjected to changes in relative humidity. READ MORE

  4. 14. Charged Polymers at Spherical Surfaces

    Author : Anna Akinchina; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Monte Carlo simulation; diblock polyampholyte brushes; polymer brushes; persistent length; stiffness; complexation; macroion; polyelectrolyte; polyion;

    Abstract : Two separate topics in the area of colloidal chemistry have been investigated by the use of molecular modeling: the structural properties of polyion?macroion complexes and of diblock polyampholyte brushes. The main results were obtained by the use of Monte Carlo simulation in the framework of the primitive model, and in the case of polyampholyte brushes the simulation results were also complemented by lattice mean-field calculations. 5. 15. Modeling the effects of knots in Structural Timber

    Author : Christina Foley; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; three-dimensional fiber paradigm; fiber deviation; knots; annual growth layer; material matrix; knot bump; structural timber; load carrying capacity; Materiallära; critical knot; knot distance ratio; local principal material directions; stiffness; materialteknik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of the pursued research is to increase knowledge of the effects of knots in structural timber so that characteristics of weaker timber may be determined and applied to improve current grading techniques. In the process, a three-dimensional fiber paradigm was established, which describes variations of local principle material axes in timber containing knots. READ MORE
