1. Ethanol production by recombinant and natural xylose-utilising yeasts
Abstract : The xylose-fermenting capacity of recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae carrying XYL1 and XYL2 from Pichia stipitis, which encode xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), respectively, is poor due to high xylitol formation. Whereas, P. READ MORE

2. Metabolic Engineering of Central Carbon Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae The contribution of systems biology to physiological studies
Abstract : Saccharomyces cerevisiae is one of the most well characterized yeast of large industrial interest due to several attractivefeatures such as its capability to efficiently convert glucose into ethanol and carbon dioxide at high flux, its amenabilityto genetic modification and the presence of extensive knowledge databases. For these reasons, it is often considered asuitable cell factory for the production of different classes of compounds. READ MORE

3. Redox balancing in recombinant strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : In metabolically engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing Pichia stipitis XYL1 and XYL2 genes, encoding xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), respectively, xylitol is excreted as the major product during anaerobic xylose fermentation and only low yields of ethanol are produced. This has been interpreted as a result of the dual cofactor dependence of XR and the exclusive use of NAD+ by XDH. READ MORE

4. On-line Monitoring Techniques for the Study of Yeast Physiology. Some Studies on the Yeasts Pichia stipitis and Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : On-line monitoring techniques have been used with the goal of optimizing fermentation processes involving the yeasts Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker's yeast) and Pichia stipitis (a xylose fermenting yeast), and a highly equipped fermentor system has been developed for these studies. The fed-batch growth of S. READ MORE

5. Bioethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Materials: Some studies on Sugarcane Bagasse and Paja Brava
Abstract : The commercial feasibility of ethanol production from biomass is dependent on the availability of lignocellulose in large amounts at low cost. Various kinds of agricultural residues are of interest, due to the fact that these feedstocks have well-established cultivation procedures already in place, as well as technology for harvest and transportation.
