  2. 7. A Serendipitous Journey through Stochastic Processes

    Author : Ludovico Theo Giorgini; John Scott Wettlaufer; Valerio Lucarini; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : In this licentiate thesis I will present some new insights in different problems in the field of stochastic processes. A stochastic resonance system is studied using path integral techniques, originally developed in quantum field theory, to recover the optimal means through which noise self-organises before a rare transition from one potential well to the other. 3. 8. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry

    Author : Peter Magnusson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []

    Abstract : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. READ MORE

  4. 9. Managing uncertainties through efficient calculation of transients and harmonic propagation in power systems

    Author : Oscar Lennerhag; Math Bollen; Jan Lundquist; David Thomas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Overvoltages; harmonics; uncertainties; stochastic methods; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The electric power system is undergoing changes including large-scale introduction of renewable energy sources together with HVDC/FACTS, changes in the network such as increased amount of high voltage cables, industrial electrification, and changes in the load composition. These changes will impact the system in different ways and lead to challenges that must be addressed to facilitate planning, dimensioning, and operation of the system in a secure and economical way. 5. 10. Water Relaxation Processes as Seen by NMR Spectroscopy Using MD and BD Simulations

    Author : Ken Åman; Per-Olof Westlund; Arnold Maliniak; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; NMR; Stochastic Liouville Equation; Brownian Dynamics; Molecular Dynamics; Water; Relaxation; Deuterium; ESR; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes water proton and deuterium relaxation processes, as seen by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, using Brownian Dynamics (BD) or Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations. The MD simulations reveal new detailed information about the dynamics and order of water molecules outside of a lipid bilayer. READ MORE
