  1. 1. The influence of climate on ozone risk for vegetation

    Author : Jenny Klingberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : local climate; topography; nocturnal temperature inversions; ozone spring peak; passive diffusion sampler; AOT40; stomatal ozone flux; stomatal conductance; phytotoxic ozone dose; EMEP; MATCH; RCA3; climate change;

    Abstract : Ground-level ozone (O3) is a harmful air pollutant causing reduced crop yield and quality, reduced forest growth and negative effects on human health in large parts of the world. O3 is generally seen as a regional scale air pollution problem, but O3 concentration ([O3]) variation on a smaller geographical scale can be considerable. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Ups and Downs of the Holocene: Exploring Relationships between Global CO2 and Climate Variability in the North Atlantic Region

    Author : Catherine Jessen; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marklära; geomorfologi; climatology; klimatologi; rapid climate change; Holocene climate; atmospheric CO2 concentrations; geochemical proxy indicators; Paleobotanik; palynology; Geology; palynologi; fylogeni; geomorphology; fysisk geografi; Geologi; physical geography; kartografi; pedology; cartography; phylogeny; Palaeobotany; stomatal frequency; lake sediments;

    Abstract : This thesis aimed to examine the relationship between climate and atmospheric CO2 concentrations through rapid climate changes during the Holocene. Climate was reconstructed using high-resolution, radiocarbon dated, lake sediment geochemical proxies (magnetic susceptibility, loss-on-ignition, total carbon/nitrogen/sulphur determinations and biogenic silica), vegetational reconstruction (pollen analysis) and stomatal frequency based CO2 reconstructions. 3. 3. Refixation of respiratory CO2 in leaves

    Author : Diana Eckert; Anna M. Jensen; John Marshall; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CO2 refixation; mesophyll resistance; stomatal conductance; Vcmax; leaf anatomy; photosynthesis; forestry; carbon allocation; ecophysiology; Natural Science; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : Photosynthesis is a vital process for trees, one in which CO2 plays a major role. At the same time, the tree’s own metabolism produces CO2. READ MORE

  4. 4. Carbon Dioxide and Water Vapour Exchange within a Norway Spruce Canopy

    Author : Lasse Tarvainen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nitrogen allocation; optimality; stomatal conductance; photosynthesis; resource use efficiency; stem respiration; conifer;

    Abstract : Terrestrial ecosystems can act both as sinks and sources in the global carbon cycle. Forests are an important part of this system and a good understanding of their carbon balance is essential for assessments of the future climate and for evaluating mitigation strategies. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of HT1 protein kinase in red light-induced stomatal opening

    Author : Anastasia Matrosova; Maria Israelsson Nordström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Red light and blue light induce stomatal opening in plants via separate pathways. It is unclear to what extent photosynthetic processes, if any, of guard cells or underlying mesophyll are involved in the red light-induced stomatal response. READ MORE
