  1. 1. Primary Production in African Drylands : Quantifying Supply and Demand Using Earth Observation and Socio-ecological Data

    Author : Abdulhakim Abdi; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Net primary production; Africa; Drylands; Coupled human and natural systems; Human-Environment Relations; Food security; Earth observation; Remote Sensing;

    Abstract : The human-environment connection in the mostly rural drylands of sub-Saharan Africa forms a complex, interlinked system that provides ecosystem services. This system is susceptible to climatic variability that impacts the supply of its products, and high population growth, which impacts the demand for these products. READ MORE

  2. 2. Matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium

    Author : Radovan Pilka; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to study matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium. Most importantnly, both these molecules may be ivolved in the implantation process. Trophoblast tissue from human as well as mouse embryos produces pro-MMP-9. READ MORE

In 1999, a start-up genomics company, UmanGenomics, obtained ‘all commercial rights’ to the biobank. The company introduced an ethics policy, which was well received in prestigious journals, focusing on public oversight and informed consent. READ MORE

  4. 4. Membrane Proteins in Human Neutrophils - Identification and Characterization of Lipid Rafts in Subcellular Organelles

    Author : Elisabeth Feuk-Lagerstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Human neutrophils; Subcellular organelles; Membrane proteins; Lipid rafts; DRMs;

    Abstract : The human neutrophil is an important effector cell in acute inflammation and in the innate immune response against bacteria and fungi. When immune reactions occur in the tissue in response to antigen challenge, neutrophils are the first cells to enter the site of inflammation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Technical challenges in human islet isolation

    Author : Magnus Ståhle; Olle Korsgren; Andrew Friberg; Federico Bertuzzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Transplantation of islets of Langerhans is an effective treatment option for patients with brittle type 1 diabetes mellitus. This treatment restores glucose control and also reduces hypoglycemia. Unfortunately, the outcome from islet isolations is variable, and many preparations do not yield sufficient islet number or islet quality. READ MORE
