8. Cell-penetrating peptides and bioactive cargoes : Strategies and mechanisms
Abstract : The cell membrane is an impermeable barrier for most macromolecules. Recently discovered cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have gained lot of attention because they can cross the membrane, and even more, carry cargoes with them. How CPPs enter cells is still not clear, while the delivery of different cargoes has been convincingly shown. READ MORE

9. Cardioprotective treatment strategies
Abstract : In myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury, complement activation, tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) and extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) release contribute to myocardial injury. ATP is degraded into adenosine by the enzyme apyrase, and adenosine possesses cardioprotective properties. READ MORE

10. Environmental fate of chemicals released from consumer products : Multimedia modelling strategies
Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to assess the environmental fate and transport of chemicals emitted from consumer products through the development and application of modelling tools. The following hypotheses were tested: i) Multimedia fate models can be applied in a multistage assessment process to emerging chemicals when limited knowledge exists to identify the likely environmental fate and to direct further research; ii) the indoor environment acts as a source of anthropogenic substances in consumer products to the outdoor environment; and iii) chemical removal pathways in the indoor environment are important for the fate of organic chemicals in densely populated areas.
