  1. 1. Legacy and emerging pollutants in pristine and polluted boreal catchments

    Author : Anh Minh Nguyen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are bioaccumulative chemicals that are ubiquitously and globally distributed in the environment. Several species of POPs have been studied extensively and are continuously being monitored in various environmental matrices for decades. READ MORE

  3. 3. Soil and stream water chemistry in a boreal catchment - interactions, influences of dissolved organic matter and effects of wood ash application

    Author : Sara H Norström; Ulla Lundström; Dan Bylund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Boreal forest; catchment studies; dissolved organic carbon; soil solution; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Two small bordering catchments in Bispgården, Central Sweden, wereinvestigated in regard to soil solution and stream water chemistry during the frostfree seasons of 2003-2007. Both catchments were drained by first order streams,Fanbergsbäcken and Gråbergsbäcken, and in Fanbergsbäckens catchment anextensive investigation of the soil and soil solution chemistry was conducted bylysimeter and centrifugation sampling. 4. 4. Water chemistry and runoff in forest streams at Kloten

    Author : Harald Grip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Element clustering; evapotranspiration; impact; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Natural variability of stream water composition and discharge was studied in the Kloten area, Central Sweden, by means of statistical methods and simulation technique. The effects of Urea (155 kgN ha-1) and ammonium nitrate (AN, 160 kgN ha-1) fertilization and clear-cutting were studied by comparing treated and reference streams before and after management. 5. 5. Prevention of hemolysis as a novel strategy to limit hemoglobin-mediated lipid oxidation in fish - towards a more sustainable use of fish raw materials

    Author : Semhar Ghirmai; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hemoglobin; herring Clupea harengus ; fish; rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss ; erythrocyte; hemolysis; side-stream; antioxidant; lipid oxidation; blood plasma;

    Abstract : Hemoglobin (Hb) has been recognized as a main pro-oxidant in fish, causing fast and intense lipid oxidation. This thesis explores the hypothesis that maintaining red blood cells (RBCs) intact for an extended time during fish processing could delay Hb-mediated lipid oxidation. READ MORE
