1. Physics of Electrical Discharge Transitions in Air
Abstract : Electrical discharges with a variety of different forms (streamers, glow corona, leaders, etc.) broadly exist in nature and in industrial applications. Under certain conditions, one electrical discharge can be transformed into another form. READ MORE

2. Experiments on biofilm formation and growth in laminar flows
Abstract : The interaction between fluid dynamics and biofilm growth plays a key role in both medical and industrial applications. Biofilms, or bacteria that are embedded in a protective matrix of extracellular polymeric substances, settle on interfaces such as on implanted devices or ship hulls. READ MORE

3. On the inception and propagation of streamers along mineral-oil/solid interfaces
Abstract : This thesis presents an experimental study of positive and negativestreamers propagating along mineral-oil/solid interfaces under square highvoltage pulses. The thesis includes the design and construction of anexperimental setup to studying the streamers in a point-plane configurationcapable to detect streamer parameters such as velocity, length, propagationtime, emitted light and charge. 4. Eulerian Numerical Study of the Sedimentation of Fibre Suspensions
Abstract : Sedimenting suspensions exist in a varity of natural phenomena and industrial applications. It is already observed in experiments that the dilute fibre suspensions experience a hydrodynamics instability under gravity at low Reynolds numbers. Initially well-mixed suspensions become inhomogeneous and anisotropic due to this instability. READ MORE

5. Cellulose-based electrical insulation materials : Dielectric and mechanical properties
Abstract : The reliability of the generation and distribution of electricity is highly dependent on electrical insulation and is essential for the prosperity of our society and a ubiquitous part of our everyday life. The present study shows how some important material properties affect the electrical properties of cellulose-based electrical insulation systems which are used together with mineral oil in high-voltage transformers.
