1. Protein FOG at the interface between G streptococci and human host defence lines
Abstract : Group G streptococci (GGS) may be of four different species and may infect humans and also animals. S. dysgalactiae equisimilis most commonly cause human GGS infections. These bacteria are part of the normal flora, but can cause pharyngitis, erysipelas and impetigo. READ MORE

2. Recurrent Streptococcal Pharyngotonsillitis Studies on etiology and treatment
Abstract : In acute pharyngotonsillitis group A streptococci (GAS) is the etiological agent in 30-50% of cases. Phenoxymethylpenicillin (pcV) is the drug of choice in Sweden. However, the failure rate is as high as 5-25% and further pcV treatment is followed by still higher failure rates. The background of failures remains largely elusive. READ MORE

3. Streptococcal virulence and the coagulation system
Abstract : This thesis explores streptococcal virulence from both mechanistic and evolutionary perspectives, where the mechanistic studies focus on interactions with the human coagulation system. We describe interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and components of the intrinsic pathway of coagulation and the kallikrein-kinin system in human plasma, as well as to how these surface proteins are produced in different growth phases. 4. The streptococcal IgG degrading enzyme IdeS : studies on host-pathogen interactions
Abstract : The important human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes causes both mild infections such as pharyngitis and impetigo but also severe life threatening invasive infections. Specific antibodies (IgG) recognize pathogens and are important mediators for pathogen clearance by the immune defence. S. READ MORE

5. Molecular studies on streptococcal surface proteins
Abstract : Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus pyogenes are two related human pathogens causing different diseases. This thesis focuses on a number of surface proteins expressed by S. agalactiae and S. pyogenes and, more specifically, the molecular and biological characterization of these proteins. READ MORE
