  1. 1. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Author : Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Abstract : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phenotypic Specification of Striatal Progenitors; Evidence for both cell-autonomous and environmental control as studied by transplantation into the adult and developing rodent brain

    Author : Martin Olsson; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; striatal projection neurons; striatal development; somatostatin; parvalbumin; neuronal differentiation; neural transplantation; medial ganglionic eminence; lateral ganglionic eminence; forebrain dvelopment; cholinergic; embryonic; thyroid transcription fa; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : The striatum is the major component of the ventral telencephalon and basal ganglia, involved in the processing of cortical information. The vast majority of the neuronal population in the striatum are striatal projection neurons, with connection to the globus pallidus and substantia nigra. READ MORE

  3. 3. Specification of Dorsal and Intermediate Telencephalic Character

    Author : Matthew Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; telencephalon; forebrain; dorsoventral patterning; WNT; FGF; RA; retinoid-mediated signaling; development; specification; cortex; striatal; intermediate; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The telencephalon is the most highly evolved region of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). The major structures of the telencephalon - the cortex and basal ganglia – derive from the dorsally positioned pallium and the ventrally positioned subpallium, respectively. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling receptor induced signaling in MSNs : Interaction between molecules involved in striatal synaptic plasticity

    Author : Anu G. Nair; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Omar Gutierrez-Arenas; Upinder S. Bhalla; Pierre Vincent; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Striatal synaptic plasticity; LTP; Dopamine; Acetylcholine; Synergy; Medium spiny neurons; MSNs;

    Abstract : Basal Ganglia are evolutionarily conserved brain nuclei involved in several physiologically important animal behaviors like motor control and reward learning. Striatum, which is the input nuclei of basal ganglia, integrates inputs from several neurons, like cortical and thalamic glutamatergic input and local GABAergic inputs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Striatal pathways in dyskinesia and dystonia

    Author : Laura Andreoli; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Striatum; Dystonia; L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia; DREADD; Mouse model; Dopamine; dopamine receptor;

    Abstract : Purposeful and well-coordinated movements depend on the control exerted by dopamine (DA) on the basal ganglia (BG) network. Accordingly, dysfunctions or lesions of the dopaminergic system in the BG can result in an overall poverty and slowness of movement, cardinal features of Parkinson´s disease (PD), or in dyskinesias, exaggerated and involuntary movements resulting from L-DOPA pharmacotherapy.
