  1. 1. New Constructions for Competitive and Minimal-Adaptive Group Testing

    Author : Muhammad Azam Sheikh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; strict group testing; disjoint pools; randomization; competitive group testing; minimal-adaptive group testing; exact bounds; competitive ratio;

    Abstract : Group testing (GT) was originally proposed during the World War II in an attempt to minimize the \emph{cost} and \emph{waiting time} in performing identical blood tests of the soldiers for a low-prevalence disease. Formally, the GT problem asks to find $d\ll n$ \emph{defective} elements out of $n$ elements by querying subsets (pools) for the presence of defectives. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functionalised surfaces for bacterial discrimination

    Author : Mohsen Golabi; Anthony Turner; Edwin Jager; Richard Luxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biosensorer; Bakterier; Mönsterigenkänning;

    Abstract : Bacterial detection and identification is a critical step in many arenas, including food and water safety, clinical diagnostics, bioprocess control and biosecurity. Social hygiene has a direct correlation with the strict control of microorganisms in these fields. READ MORE

  3. 3. Welander distal myopathy : clinical and genetic studies

    Author : Gabrielle Åhlberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Welander distal myopathy; neurogenic component; rimmed vacuoles; linkage; chromosome 2p13; candidate genes; common founder; homozygous form; variable clinical expression;

    Abstract : Distal myopathies are a group of muscular disorders described in many countries with different inheritance patterns and variable progression rates. Welander distal myopathy (WDM) is characterised by autosomal dominant inheritance, late onset and distal distribution of muscular weakness. Most cases originate from the middle parts of Sweden.
