  1. 1. Reflective structural colors and their actuation using electroactive conducting polymers

    Author : Stefano Rossi; Magnus Jonsson; Eleni Stavrinidou; Laura Na Liu; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Structural colors; Reflective displays; Optical nanocavities; Conducting polymers; Electrochemical tuning.;

    Abstract : The integration of inorganic photonic nanostructures with organic materials opens new possibilities to dynamically modify the optical response of photonic devices. This thesis focuses on how to generate efficient reflective structural colors and tune them in combination with a conducting polymer (CP). READ MORE

  2. 2. Seeing the invisible: Evolution of wing interference patterns in Hymenoptera, and their application in taxonomy

    Author : Ekaterina Shevtsova; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chalcidoidea; parasitic wasps; structural colors; visual signaling; cryptic species; sexual dimorphism; wing membrane thickness; wing micro-morphology; wing cuticle ultrastructure;

    Abstract : The remarkably thin transparent wing membranes in tiny wasps may appear to have a simple structural design, but hide a largely unexplored complex of micro-morphological features that serve aerodynamics and may also function in visual signaling. I found that when such small transparent wings are viewed against a dark background they display vivid structural color patterns due to thin film interference, and named them Wing Interference Patterns (WIPs). 3. 3. Electrochromic nanostructures based on tungsten trioxide for reflective displays

    Author : Marika Gugole; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochromism; structural colors; reflective displays; WO3;

    Abstract : Our lives are dominated by the usage of displays. Every day we spend hours looking at displays and our eyes are surely affected by them. Reflective displays have gained a lot of attention in recent years due to their lower impact on our eyes' health, very low power consumption, and high performance in sunlight. READ MORE

  4. 4. WO3 for reflective displays in color

    Author : Marika Gugole; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reflective displays; electrochromism; plasmonic metasurfaces; structural colors;

    Abstract : Reflective displays, also known as electronic paper, are very attractive due to their low power consumption and great visibility under bright ambient light conditions. However, reflective displays in color are still limited on the market for two main reasons. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Visible and the Invisible : Color Contrast Phenomena in Space

    Author : Gertrud Olsson; Jadwiga Krupinska; Henrik Oxvig; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; color in architecture; color theory; color phenomena; simultaneous contrast; simultané; afterimage; transparency; material and immaterial; color mixture; light-colors; Art; Konstvetenskap; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : This study deals with the changes in color that arise in space, primarily simultaneous contrast in three dimensions. The typical account of simultaneous contrast is that the contrast phenomenon occurs between two or more color surfaces seen together, thus affecting one another. READ MORE
