  1. 1. Constraining the Uplift History of the Al Hajar Mountains, Oman

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Geological Sciences, Stockholm University

    Author : Reuben Hansman; Stockholms universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oman; Al Hajar; mountain; uplift; orogeny; tectonics; structural; geology; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Mountain building is the result of large compressional forces in the Earth’s crust where two tectonic plates collide. This is why mountains only form at plate boundaries, of which the Al Hajar Mountains in Oman and the United Arab Emirates is thought to be an example of. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tectonic implications of ca. 1.45 Ga granitoid magmatism at the southwestern margin of the East European Craton

    University dissertation from Audrius Cecys, Sölvegatan 12, 22362 Lund

    Author : Audrius Cecys; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geologi; southern Sweden; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Mesoproterozoic; geochemistry; syntectonic; petrology; structural geology; anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility; Danopolonian orogeny; Geology; granite;

    Abstract : Between ca 1.53 and 1.40 Ga, the southwestern margin of the East European Craton was subjected to extensive magmatism and deformation. While various suites of anorthositic, mangeritic and charnockitic-granitic rocks were emplaced between ca. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cryptic Orogeny uplift of the Al Hajar Mountains at an alleged passive margin

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Geological Sciences, Stockholm University

    Author : Reuben Johannes Hansman; Stockholms universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uplift; mountains; structural; low-temperature; thermochronology; dating; fission-track; U-Th He; U-Pb; calcite; structure-from-motion; photogrammetry; UAV; trishear; fault-propagation; Hafit; Al Hajar Mountains; United Arab Emirates; Oman; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : Mountains evolve and grow because of the large forces that occur from the collision of tectonic plates. Plate boundaries change and move through time, and regions that were once stable, shallow-marine environments can be dragged into subduction zones and get transformed into vast mountain ranges. 4. 4. Sveconorwegian orogenesis in the southwestern Baltic Shield - Zircon geochronology and tectonothermal setting of orthogneisses in SW Sweden

    University dissertation from Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Jenny Andersson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Petrology; Geologi; fysisk geografi; physical geography; Geology; structural markers; augen gneiss; orthogneiss; migmatite; ion microprobe; Pb-Pb evaporation; U-Pb; geochronology; zircon; Sweden; Mylonite Zone; Western Segment; Sveconorwegian orogen; Eastern Segment; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi;

    Abstract : The Mylonite zone (MZ) is a prominent late-Sveconorwegian lithological terrane boundary in the SW Baltic Shield along which large-scale crustal block movements took place during the Sveconorwegian orogeny. The southern section of the MZ also defines a conspicuous metamorphic break separating upper amphibolite and high-pressure granulite facies rocks in the parautochthonous Eastern Segment (ES), from middle amphibolite facies rocks in the overlying Western Segment (WS). 5. 5. Glaciodynamics, Deglacial Landforms and Isostatic Uplift during the last Deglaciation of Norrbotten, Sweden

    University dissertation from Department of Geology, Lund University

    Author : Mattias Lindén; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sedimentologi; Sedimentology; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; glaciotectonic; thrust stacking; deforming bed; ribbed moraine; Niemisel moraine; De Geer moraine; isostatic uplift; glaciodynamics; deglaciation; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; geomorphology; cartography; climatology; pedology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to reconstruct the glaciodynamics, deglacial landforms, isostatic uplift and to date the deglaciation. Glaciodynamics and deglacial landforms were focused on to provide a process and depositional model for De Geer moraine and Niemisel moraine and to reveal their internal and spatial relationship, based on detailed sedimentological and structural investigations.
