  1. 11. Essays on Educational Choice and Intergenerational Mobility

    Author : Martin Nybom; Anders Björklund; Markus Jäntti; Mikael Lindahl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; educational choice; treatment effect heterogeneity; returns to college; noncognitive ability; intergenerational income mobility; life-cycle bias; time trends; cross-country differences; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four self-contained essays. The first essay concerns educational choice and the returns to college in Sweden. I apply a recently introduced econometric framework that allows for self selection and treatment effect heterogeneity. READ MORE

  2. 12. Structural analyses of immune cell receptor signalling and activation

    Author : Maria Saline; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; structural biology; NMR; protein-protein interaction; immunology;

    Abstract : Structural biology is a scientific field where the aim is to observe macromolecules on a atomic level to understand their functions. Often these macromolecules are proteins that make, almost, everything happen within the cells; from hormones and enzymes to building blocks and controlling gene expression. READ MORE

  3. 13. Essays on the Political Economy of Development

    Author : Matti Mitrunen; Andreas Madestam; David Strömberg; Torsten Persson; Noam Yuchtman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Industrial policy; Structural change; Intergenerational mobility; War reparations; Inequality; Kuznets curve; Famine; Threat of revolution; Extension of the franchise; Assimilation; Age of Mass Migration; Patriotism; Nation building; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : Structural Change and Intergenerational Mobility: Evidence from the Finnish War ReparationsThis paper presents evidence that government industrial policy can promote new industries, move labor out of agriculture into manufacturing, and have long-term effects via increased human capital accumulation and upward mobility. I use plausibly exogenous variation generated by the Finnish war reparations (1944-1952) that forced the largely agrarian Finland to give 5% of its yearly GDP to the Soviet Union in the form of industrial products. 4. 14. Noise from wind turbines

    Author : Olivier Fégeant; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; masking; vibration transmission; diffraction; ambient noise; pseudo-noise; cylindrical shell. Perturbation methods; structural mobility; axoustic outdoor measurement; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : A rapid growth of installed wind power capacity is expectedin the next few years. However, the siting of wind turbines ona large scale raises concerns about their environmental impact,notably with respect to noise. READ MORE

  5. 15. Acoustic excitation and transmission of lightweight structures

    Author : Jonas Brunskog; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; point mobility; Lamb waves; wood.; Building construction; plate excitation; cavities; near-periodicity; nearly periodic; sound insulation; timber; structural acoustics; spatial Fourier transform; resilient device; prediction model; periodic; lightweight; ISO tapping machine; airborne noise; Building acoustics; impact noise; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In order to increase our knowledge of the sound transmission and radiation processes of lightweight wall and floor structures, theoretical models are needed. Detailed models may form a valuable tool. In lightweight floor structures, impact sound insulation is perhaps the most important property to consider. READ MORE
