  1. 21. Statistical Mechanical Studies of Aqueous solutions and Biomolecular Systems

    Author : Fernando Luis Barroso Da Silva; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; highly charged macromolecules; dielectric discontinuity; dissociation constant; Tanford-Kirkwood model; protein mutation; electrostatic interactions; chemical potential; titration; biomolecules; computer simulations; radial distribution function; electrolyte solutions; continuum model.; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with theoretical studies of aqueous solutions and biomolecular systems. Part of the present work is to understand equilibrium solvent and solute properties, while the other part is to study processes that occur in these solutions. READ MORE

  2. 22. Analytical photoacoustic model of laser-induced ultrasound in a planar layered structure

    Author : Erika Svanström; Erik Olsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industriell elektronik; Industrial Electronics;

    Abstract : A way of describing photoacoustic measurement techniques is listening to light. Another way is as sensor techniques for characterisation of materials by means of light and sound interacting with the material under investigation. READ MORE

  3. 23. Numerical Complexity Analysis of Weak Approximation of Stochastic Differential Equations

    Author : Raul Tempone Olariaga; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adaptive methods; a posteriori error estimates; stochastic differential equations; weak approximation; Monte Carlo methods; Malliavin Calculus; HJM model; option price; bond market; stochastic elliptic equation; Karhunen-Loeve expansion; numerical co; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of four papers on numerical complexityanalysis of weak approximation of ordinary and partialstochastic differential equations, including illustrativenumerical examples. Here by numerical complexity we mean thecomputational work needed by a numerical method to solve aproblem with a given accuracy. READ MORE

  4. 24. Classical and Quantum Descriptions of Proteins, Lipids and Membranes

    Author : Richard Tjörnhammar; Olle Edholm; Sagar Pandit; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum corrections; Coordination structure; Polarisation; Phase transitions; Kelvin differential equation; Line tension; Elastic membrane models; Molecular particle models; Zinc binding; Cholesterol and Phospholipids; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the properties of proteins and membranes are studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The subject is decomposed into parts addressing free energy calculations in proteins, mechanical inclusion models for lipid bilayers, phase transitions and structural correlations in lipid bilayers and atomistic lipid bilayer models. 5. 25. Modelling the terrestrial carbon cycle – drivers, benchmarks, and model-data fusion

    Author : Zhendong Wu; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : Global carbon cycle; Ecosystem modeling; Uncertainty; LPJ-GUESS; Traceability Framework; Model-data fusion; Climate data;

    Abstract : The terrestrial ecosystem sequesters about one-third of anthropogenic emissions each year, thereby providing a critical ecosystem service that slows the rate of increase of atmospheric carbon dioxide and helps mitigate climate change. Observed atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations exhibit a large inter-annual variability which is considered to be caused primarily by the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to climate change and anthropogenic activity.
