  1. 16. Real-time breath gas analysis of carbon monoxide : laser-based detection and pulmonary gas exchange modeling

    Author : Ramin Ghorbani; Florian M. Schmidt; Anders Blomberg; Christoffer Boman; Staffan Schedin; Jonathan Beauchamp; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon monoxide CO ; pulmonary gas exchange; computational modeling; real-time breath gas analysis; single-exhalation profile; laser absorption spectroscopy; nonlinear least-squares fitting; breath sampling; baseline level; diurnal variation; healthy population; exposure study; fysik; Physics; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Breath gas analysis is a promising approach for non-invasive medical diagnostics and physiological monitoring. Real-time, breath-cycle resolved biomarker detection facilitates data interpretation and has the potential to improve the diagnostic value of breath tests as exhalation profiles carry spatiotemporal information about biomarker origin and gas exchange in the respiratory tract. 2. 17. Burnout in competitive and elite athletes

    Author : Henrik Gustafsson; Peter Hassmén; Göran Kenttä; Thomas Raedeke; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; athlete identity; burnout; case-study; elite athletes; overtraining; self-esteem; stress; Sports; Idrott; Idrottsvetenskap; Sports Science; Idrottsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Intensified training regimes and increasing competitive pressure make some athletes leave sports with shattered hopes and dreams. A number of these athletes drop out of sports due to burnout, which is characterized by an enduring experience of emotional and physical exhaustion, reduced sense of accomplishment and devaluation of sport participation as a consequence of prolonged chronic stress. Abstract : Diabetes is recognized by hyperglycaemia and polyuria. Complications, reduced quality of life and staggering health-care costs are all derived from the disease. Two subclasses of diabetes are Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). READ MORE

  4. 19. Laminar and turbulent particle laden flows : a numerical and experimental study

    Author : Seyed Hamid Tabaeikazerooni; Luca Brandt; Jeanette Hussong; Raffaella Ocone; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Suspension flow; inertial effect; turbulent duct flow; finite-size particles; Immersed Boundary Method IBM ; Astigmatism Particle Tracking Velocimetry APTV ; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Particle laden flows are widespread in nature and in industrial applications. Dust storms, geophysical flows, pharmaceutical processes, fluidized beds and blood flow are only a few examples. Both global and local properties of a particle laden flow may alter significantly in comparison to the corresponding single phase flow. READ MORE

  5. 20. Magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging after brachial plexus injury and repair : Experimental and clinical study

    Author : Grainne Bourke; Mikael Wiberg; Lev N. Novikov; Lars Dahlin; Umeå universitet; []
