    Abstract : Abstract The argument developed in this dissertation contends that access to drinking water is closely related to the institutional arrangements under which land is managed. However, while previous research goes astray in definitional debates over which form of land tenure – customary systems, state control, or private titles – best promotes increased water coverage levels, the argument here is that to be truly secure and stimulate citizen investments – in for example water infrastructure, wells, and housing – land tenure needs the backing of a credible governmental commitment.     Abstract : Studies were performed to improve iodine deficiency control programs. Goitre rates and cassava processing practices were compared in three Central African Republic (CAR) populations. Short-cuts in cassava processing were associated with elevated urinary thiocyanate and increased goitre rates, suggesting a goitrogenic effect in one population. READ MORE

    Abstract : In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), air quality is gravely understudied despite the existing influential factors such a rapid urbanization and population growth that negatively affect the environment. Majority of urban areas in SSA face challenges that include lack of social services, poor infrastructure development, exponential increase of second-hand vehicles and extensive use of biomass-based fuel for energy needs.
