  1. 1. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

    Author : Johanna Tollbäck; Ulrika Nilsson; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air sampling; sampling methods; indoor air; SPE; SPME; extraction; dynamic extraction; online coupling; SWE; subcritical water extraction; GC MS; LC MS; organophosphate triesters; PAH; tetrabromobisphenol A; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). Abstract : To fulfill the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals, there is a need to transition from a petroleum-based society toward a more sustainable one which requires new solutions and the production of materials, chemicals, and energy from renewable resources. Using side-stream products from industries to produce value-added products will be economically beneficial. READ MORE

  3. 3. Valorisation of cereal by-products: a biorefinery approach

    Author : Reskandi C. Rudjito; Franscisco Vilaplana; Amparo Jimenez-Quero; Mirjam Kabel; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cereal by-products; arabinoxylan; ferulic acid; subcritical water extraction; enzymatic treatment; xylanases; prebiotics; Jordbruksbiprodukter; arabinoxylan; ferulsyra; subkritisk vattenextraktion; enzymatisk behandling; xylanaser; prebiotika; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Cereal by-products are abundant streams of underutilised biomass that have the potential be valorised into various industrial products by means of environmentally friendly processes. In this study, an integrated bioprocess combining subcritical water extraction (SWE) and enzymatic treatment (ET) was proposed to effectively extract arabinoxylans (AX) from cereal by-products. Abstract : Cereal production generates large quantities of by-products every year, which still remain underutilized. The hemicellulose fractions from cereal by-products are anticipated to play an important role in tomorrow's sustainable and bio-based circular economy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Application of subcritical and supercritical fluids in coal extraction and analysis

    Author : Fiona Nermark; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Morupule coal; desulfurization; demineralization; Supercritical CO2;

    Abstract : Coal is used to generate electricity and produce high-value chemicals through coal gasification, liquefaction, and coke. During combustion sulfur is released, which leads to acid rain formation. READ MORE
