  2. 2. Photochemistry of Phenyl Halides

    Author : Daniel Karlsson; Jan Davidsson; Michael Ashfold; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Chemistry; Photochemistry; Predissociation; Phenyl halides; Excited states; Substituent effects; Pump-probe spectroscopy; Molecular beam; Dynamics; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : We have studied fundamental aspects of photo-induced dissociation kinetics and dynamics in several phenyl halides. By combining femtosecond pump-probe measurements with ab initio calculations we are able to account for several observations. READ MORE

    Abstract : In this thesis we have performed core-electron spectroscopy studies of gas phase molecular systems starting with smaller diatomic, continuing with triatomic and extending our research to more complex polyatomic ones. We can subdivide the results presented here into two categories: the first one focusing on electronic fine structure and effect of the chemical bonds on molecular core-levels and the other one dealing with nuclear dynamics induced by creation of a core hole. 5. 5. Isotopes as Mechanism Spies : Nucleophilic Bimolecular Substitution and Monoamine Oxidase B Catalysed Amine Oxidation Probed with Heavy Atom Kinetic Isotope Effects

    Author : Susanna MacMillar; Olle Matsson; Anita Hussénius; Daniel M. Quinn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Organic chemistry; nucleophilic bimolecular substitution SN2; kinetic isotope effects; precision conductometry; monoamine oxidase B MAO B; reaction mechanism; carbon 11C 14C kinetic isotope effect; ion pairing triple-ion formation; para-substituted benzyl chlorides; tetrabytylammonium cyanide; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the study of reaction mechanisms by means of kinetic isotope effects (KIEs). Studies of the nucleophilic bimolecular substitution (SN2) reaction had the dual purpose of improving our fundamental understanding of molecular reactivity and assessing the ability of kinetic isotope effects to serve as mechanistic tools.
