  1. 1. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location

    Author : Imran Ali Jamali; Bo Olofsson; Stephen Foster; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Subsurface dams; Groundwater; GIS; Regolith thickness; Groundwater; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam. 3. 3. Filtration System For On-Site Wastewater Treatment : Experiences From Modelling and Experimental Investigations

    Author : Rajabu Hamisi; Gunno Renman; Anders Wörman; Scholz Miklas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Many on-site wastewater treatment systems in Sweden are not sustainable in terms of treatment efficiency, nutrient recycling and economics. Achieving reliable and sustainable systems to meet on-site wastewater treatment demands requires comprehensive field investigations of the performance of novel technologies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Innovative seismic imaging solutions : From hardrock mineral exploration to quick-clay site characterization

    Author : Tatiana Pertuz; Alireza Malehmir; Cesare Comina; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic methods; mineral exploration; quick-clays; seismic imaging; seismic characterization; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Seismic methods are an efficient and powerful tool to explore the subsurface. It principally helps to gain information on the subsurface structure, bedrock topography, and the nature of the host rock. READ MORE

  5. 5. 2D and 3D Seismic Surveying at the CO2SINK Project Site, Ketzin, Germany: The Potential for Imaging the Shallow Subsurface

    Author : Sawasdee Yordkayhun; Christopher Juhlin; Charlotte Krawczyk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inversion; Traveltime tomography; 3D seismic surveys; Seismic velocity; Seismic source; CO2SINK project; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : Seismic traveltime inversion, traveltime tomography and seismic reflection techniques have been applied for two dimensional (2D) and three dimensional (3D) data acquired in conjunction with site characterization and monitoring aspects at a carbon dioxide (CO2) geological storage site at Ketzin, Germany (the CO2SINK project). Conventional seismic methods that focused on investigating the CO2 storage and caprock formations showed a poor or no image of the upper 150 m. READ MORE
