  1. 1. Cognitive strategies in simple addition and subtraction : Process models based on analyses of response latencies and retrospective verbal reports

    Author : Maj-Lene Hedenborg; Stellan Ohlsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; cognition; mental arithmetic; addition; subtraction; process models; response latencies; verbal reports; errors; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to explore cognitive processes used by children and adults when solving simple arithmetic problems, and to develop process models for describing these processes. The studies in the thesis were based mainly on analyses of response latencies and retrospective verbal reports, separately and in combination. READ MORE

  2. 2. Impartial Games and Recursive Functions

    Author : Urban Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Algorithmically undecidable; Beatty sequences; Blocking maneuver; Cellular automaton; Comply maneuver; Complementary sequences; Dictionary process; Dual game; Game complexity; Game convergence; Game reflexivity; Heap game; Impartial game; Invariant subtraction game; Move-size dynamic; Nim; P-equivalence; Rule 110; Splitting sequences; *-operator; Subtraction game; Take-away game; Turing complete; Wythoff Nim; Turing complete;

    Abstract : Interest in 2-player impartial games often concerns the famous theory of Sprague-Grundy. In this thesis we study other aspects, bridging some gaps between combinatorial number theory, computer science and combinatorial games. READ MORE

    Abstract : High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a widely used tech-nique both for detecting and purifying substances in academy and in the industry. In order to facilitate the use of, and knowledge in HPLC, character-ization of stationary phases is of utmost importance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Speech enhancement for mobile communications

    Author : Harald Gustafsson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speech enhancement; spectral subtraction;

    Abstract : Three major applications of speech enhancement have been studied: noise reduction for mobile telephone handsfree accessories, noise reduction for handheld mobile telephones, and short delay noise reduction for frame-less telephone systems. During conversation, both hearing and speaking adapt to the background noise in a noisy environment. READ MORE
