  1. 1. Design, fabrication and characterization of plasmonic components based on silicon nanowire platform

    Author : Fei Lou; Lech Wosinski; Lars Thylén; Sebastian Lourdudoss; Anatoly Zayats; KTH; []
    Keywords : Planar integrated circuit; silicon photonics; plasmonics; subwavelength; directional coupler; polarization beam splitter; disk resonator; ring resonator; finite-difference time-domain; photonic crystal; electro-optic polymer; Purcell factor.;

    Abstract : Optical interconnects based on CMOS compatible photonic integrated circuits are regarded as a promising technique to tackle the issues traditional electronics faces, such as limited bandwidth, latency, vast energy consumption and so on. In recent years, plasmonic integrated components have gained great attentions due to the properties of nano-scale confinement, which may potentially bridge the size mismatch between photonic and electronic circuits. 3. 3. Effects of surface plasmons in subwavelength metallic structures

    Author : Srinivasan Iyer; Ari T. Friberg; N. Asger Mortensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; suface plasmons; extraordinary transmission; metamaterials; shnets; split-ring resonators; plasmon-induced EIT; optical antennas; plasmonics;

    Abstract : The study of optical phenomena related to the strong electromagnetic response of noble metals (silver (Ag) and gold (Au) being most popular) over the last couple of decades has led to the emergence of a fast growing research area called plasmonics named after 'surface plasmons' which are electron density waves that propagate along the interface of a metal and a dielectric medium. Surface plasmons are formed by the coupling of light to the electrons on the metal surface subject to the fulfillment of certain physical conditions and they are bound to the metal surface. 4. 4. Dispersion Engineering : Negative Refraction and Designed Surface Plasmons in Periodic Structures

    Author : Zhichao Ruan; Min Qiu; Henri Benisty; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; photonic crystal; dispersion property; negative refraction; surface plasmon polariton; designed surface plasmon; negative index material; layer-KKR method; finite-difference time-domain method; plane wave method; subwavelength imaging; open cavity; enhanced transmission; slowing light; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Abstract : The dispersion property of periodic structures is a hot research topic in the last decade. By exploiting dispersion properties, one can manipulate the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and produce effects that do not exist in conventional materials. READ MORE

  5. 5. Application and Design Developments in Diffractive Optics

    Author : Mathias Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analog-to-digital converter; free-space optical interconnect; beam shaper; robust fan-out; multichannel rotary joint; diffractive optics; DOE; subwavelength grating; spatial light modulator SLM ;

    Abstract : There has been strong development in the field of diffractive optics (DO) in research laboratories over the past two decades. Much progress has been made, both in design and analysis, as well as in manufacturing techniques. However, so far DO have only reached the market in small numbers. READ MORE
