1. Sustainability of the Swedish Sugar Sector : Assessment Tool Development and Case Study Appraisal
Abstract : This thesis contributes to the development of tools and methods for assessing sustainability and applies them to an assessment of the Swedish sugar production system. The thesis’ aims are to compile an overview of the existing approaches for assessing sustainability, to suggest a method(s) for structuring and analyzing complex sustainability issues, and to appraise sustainability impacts from Swedish sugar production. 2. Aroma and Flavor in Liquid Beet Sugar Processing
Abstract : Production of liquid beet sugar, a product of increasing importance for the food industry, involves many different compounds exhibiting aroma. Aroma compounds are introduced with the raw material, the sugar beets, but also formed as a result of sugar degradation (caramelization and Maillard reaction) or by contamination from process steps, such as adsorbents and ion exchangers. 3. Application of Molecular Markers in Sugar Beet Breeding
Abstract : Around 1750 a German chemist discovered it to be possible to extract sugar crystals from beet juice. Since then, breeding and improved agricultural practices have increased the concentration of sucrose per root from around 4% to around 18%. READ MORE

4. A comparative study on sugar beet root (Na⁺+K⁺)MgATPases isolated by different methods
Abstract : Msiribrane bound (Na+ + K+)MgATPases from homogenates of young sugar beet roots were prepared either by differential centrifugations or by an aqueous two-phase system. The properties of the MgATPases were deter- mined in the preparations. Potassium [K (° Rb )] uptake into roots of intact sugar beets was also studied. READ MORE

5. Ground beetle dynamics in intensively managed agricultural landscapes
Abstract : In this thesis I have focused on studying dynamics of ground beetle assemblages in intensively managed agricultural landscapes. By definition, the land cover of these landscapes is dominated by annually tilled farmland, comprising a range of different crop types, in the context of the southern Swedish province of Scania mostly winter wheat, spring barley, winter rapeseed, and sugar beets.
