  1. 1. Analytical approaches to the study of mucin glycosylation

    Author : Kristina A Thomsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : mucins; O-linked glycosylation; mass spectrometry; cystic fibrosis; salivary mucins; sulfated oligosaccharides.;

    Abstract : Mucins constitute the major protein component of the mucus layer, which covers the epithelial surfaces of the respiratory, the gastrointestinal and the genitourinary tracts. Mucins carry O-linked oligosaccharides which contribute to the molecule by 50-80 weight percent, and these can be highly diverse, with 50-150 different oligosaccharides found on a purified mucin population. 2. 2. Anti-herpes simplex virus activities of sulfomannan oligosaccharide PI-88 and disulfated cyclitols

    Author : Maria Ekblad; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : herpes simplex virus; antiviral drugs; viral glycoproteins; heparan sulfate mimetic; PI-88;

    Abstract : Herpes simplex virus (HSV) initiates invasion of human cells by binding to the cell surface heparan sulfate (HS) glycosaminoglycan chains. This step is mediated by the viral envelope glycoproteins gC and/or gB. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synthesis of lactosamine-containing carbohydrate structures and development for their easy assembly and conjugation

    Author : Therese Buskas; Robert Madsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four publications. The first chapter describes preparation of anomerically pure thioethyl-, thiophenyl-, and n-pentenyl 2-azido-2-deoxy glycosyl building blocks from easily accessible per-acetylated glycosamines. READ MORE

  4. 4. Formation of Iduronic Acid during Chondroitin/Dermatan Sulfate Biosynthesis

    Author : Emil Tykesson; Lungbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GLYCOSAMINOGLYCAN; CHONDROITIN; DERMATAN; EPIMERASE; SULFOTRANSFERASE; GLYCOSAMINOGLYCAN; CHONDROITIN SULFATE; DERMATAN SULFATE; EPIMERASE; SULFOTRANSFERASE;

    Abstract : All animals and some bacteria can synthesize linear polysaccharides with a backbone of repeating disaccharideunits, called glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The GAGs are either attached to a protein core, as in proteoglycans (PGs), or exist as free polymer chains, as in hyaluronan. READ MORE
