  1. 1. Profitability = f(G) : Computational Thermodynamics, Materials Design and Process Optimization

    Author : David Dilner; Malin Selleby; Mao Huahai; André Costa e Silva; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CALPHAD; steel; sulfide; steelmaking; thermodynamics; ICME; CALPHAD; stål; sulfid; ståltillverkning; termodynamik; ICME; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The thesis starts by giving a motivation to materials modeling as a way to increase profitability but also a possibility decrease the environmental impact. Fundamental concepts of relevance for this work are introduced, this include the materials genome, ICME and of course the CALPHAD method. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling long-term redox processes and oxygen scavenging in fractured crystalline rocks

    Author : Magnus Sidborn; Ivars Neretnieks; Chin-Fu Tsang; KTH; []

READ MORE

    Abstract : In recent years, high arsenic (As) levels of about 300 µg/L have been reported around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara regions within the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in Tanzania. During a sampling campaign at Geita and Mara, the groundwater and surface water samples revealed the presence of high As concentrations as well as Fe and sulfide. READ MORE

  4. 4. Chemical Speciation of Sulfur and Metals in Biogas Reactors : Implications for Cobalt and Nickel Bio-uptake Processes

    Author : Sepehr Shakeri Yekta; Bo Svensson; Ulf Skyllberg; Åsa Danielsson; Charles Banks; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biogas; Anaerobic digestion; Chemical speciation; bio-uptake; Sulfur; Iron; Cobalt; Nickel; Biogas; Anaerob nedbrytning; Kemisk speciering; Bio-upptag; Svavel; Järn; Kobolt; Nickel;

    Abstract : A balanced supply of micronutrients, including metals such as iron (Fe), cobalt (Co), and nickel (Ni), is required for the efficient and stable production of biogas. During biogas formation, the uptake of micronutrient metals by microorganisms is controlled by a complex network of biological and chemical reactions, in which reduced sulfur (S) compounds play a central role. 5. 5. Role of manganese redox cycling for trace metals in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Per Hall; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Redox zones are defined by steep gradients of changing concentrations and changing redox potential. They form a transition zone between oxic and anoxic/sulfidic conditions, where nitrate, manganese and iron reduction occurs. These redox zones can be situated in the sediment as well as in the water column. In the Baltic Sea both types are found. READ MORE
