  1. 16. Ethanol from Softwood - Process Development Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF

    Author : Kerstin Stenberg; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; economy; infection; inhibition; recirculation; S. cerevisiae; SSF; steam pretreatment; ethanol production; process development; softwood; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosics by the enzymatic hydrolysis process, which consists of a pretreatment step prior to hydrolysis, followed by fermentation and finally refining. This thesis deals with the development of the enzymatic process using softwood as raw material. READ MORE

  2. 17. Environmental Monitoring by Multi-Spectral Lidar Techniques

    Author : Petter Weibring; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-linear optics; fluorescence spectroscopy; scattering; multi-spectral imaging; Atom- och molekylärfysik; atmospheric pollution; Atomic and molecular physics; laser; remote sensing; lidar; DIAL; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Weibring;

    Abstract : Multi-spectral lidar (light detection and ranging) techniques have been developed and employed in various environmental studies, ranging from concentration mapping of volcanic emissions to fluorescence imaging of historical monuments. In both absorption measurements of gaseous species and fluorescence imaging of stones, multiple wavelength excitation and multiple wavelength detection have been applied. READ MORE

  3. 18. Income, Energy Taxation, and the Environment : An Econometric analysis

    Author : Tarek Ghalwash; Runar Brännlund; Pere Riera; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Household consumption; energy demand; emissions; rebound effect; energy taxation; tax elasticities Environmental services; income elasticities; Engel Curves; income distribution.; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers: two of them deal with the relationship between consumption, energy taxation, and emissions on macro level, and two of them focuses on the effects of changes in consumption and income on the environmental quality on a micro level. The main objective of paper [I] is to examine how exogenous technological progress, in terms of an increase in energy efficiency, affects consumption choice by Swedish households and thereby emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx). Abstract : Microorganisms are able to produce a wide variety of volatile organic compounds. This thesis deals with sampling, analysis and identification of such compounds, produced by microorganisms commonly found in buildings. READ MORE

  5. 20. Residual and Solubility trapping during Geological CO2 storage : Numerical and Experimental studies

    Author : Maria Rasmusson; Fritjof Fagerlund; Auli Niemi; Jonathan Ennis-King; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary trapping; CCS; convective flow; CO2; light transmission; SO2; well test; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in deep saline aquifers mitigates atmospheric release of greenhouse gases. To estimate storage capacity and evaluate storage safety, knowledge of the trapping mechanisms that retain CO2 within geological formations, and the factors affecting these is fundamental. READ MORE
