  1. 6. Fast dynamics and measurements of single-charge devices

    Author : Fredrik Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resonator; single-electron box; superconducting devices; decoherence; quantum capacitance; Sisyphus resistance; transmon; single-Cooper-pair box; qubit; rf-reflectometry;

    Abstract : In this thesis we present measurements on several different devices, including the single-Cooper-pair box (SCB), the single-electron box, tunable superconducting resonators and so called transmon qubits.By exploiting the quantum capacitance of the SCB, its state was measured by embedding the box in a radio-frequency resonator. 2. 7. Pulse and hold switching current readout of superconducting quantum circuits

    Author : Jochen Walter; David Haviland; Hans Mooij; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Josephson junction; readout; qubit; detector; frequency dependent damping; quantronium; phase-space; correlation analysis; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Josephson junction qubits are promising candidates for a scalable quantum processor. Such qubits are commonly manipulated by means of sequences of rf-pulses and different methods are used to determine their quantum state. READ MORE

  3. 8. Towards measuring quantum sound

    Author : Maria Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface acoustic wave; interdigital transducer; artificial atom; qubit; superconducting circuits; cryogenic temperature; phonon; gigahertz frequency; quantum acoustics; unidirectional transducer;

    Abstract : One of the most fundamental phenomena occurring in nature is the interaction between single atoms and electromagnetic fields. This is studied in quantum optics to probe the quantum nature of the system. In appended Paper I, we demonstrated that an artificial atom can couple to propagating sound, which is the acoustic analogue of quantum optics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Quantum acoustics with propagating phonons

    Author : Maria Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phonon router; unidirectional transducer; phonon; Electromagnetically Induced Transparency; Surface acoustic wave; artificial atom; interdigital transducer; quantum acoustics; qubit; superconducting circuits;

    Abstract : Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) are mechanical vibrations that propagate on the surface of solids while dissipating little power, consequently enabling them to propagate freely over long distances. The speed and wavelength of SAWs are reduced a five order of magnitude compared to when light is used as a carrier at gigahertz frequencies. READ MORE

  5. 10. Tunable superconducting transmissionline resonator for qubit coupling

    Author : Martin Sandberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fast tuning; superconductivity; transmission line; SCB; Josephson inductance.; Frequency tunable resonator; SQUID; CPW; aluminium;

    Abstract : In this licentiate thesis design, fabrication, and measurements of tunable superconducting microwave transmission line resonators are described. The resonators are of quarter wavelength type were the tuning is achieved by changing one of the boundary conditions of the resonator through a tunable impedance. READ MORE
