21. THE ROLE OF BMP SIGNALING AND ENDOGLIN IN REGULATION OF HEMATOPOIESIS
Abstract : Hematopoiesis, the formation of blood cells, ultimately depends on a rare population of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which can both self-renew to maintain the HSC pool, and differentiate into all mature blood lineages. HSC fate decisions are governed by a complex combination of numerous signals, although the molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. READ MORE

22. On the Biosynthesis and Processing of Cathepsin G, Leukocyte Elastase, and Azurocidin neutrophil granule members of a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily
Abstract : The serine proteases cathepsin G, leukocyte elastase, proteinase 3, and the inactive protease homologue azurocidin, stored in the azurophil granules of neutrophils, belong to a hematopoietic serine protease superfamily with members in mature effector cells of bone marrow origin. Promonocytic U-937 cells were used for studying the biosynthesis of cathepsin G and leukocyte elastase by biosynthetic radiolabelling. READ MORE

23. Evolution of the G protein-coupled receptor signaling system : Genomic and phylogenetic analyses
Abstract : Signal transduction pathways mediated by G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their intracellular coupling partners, the heterotrimeric G proteins, are crucial for several physiological functions in eukaryotes, including humans. This thesis describes a broad genomic survey and extensive comparative phylogenetic analysis of GPCR and G protein families from a wide selection of eukaryotes. READ MORE

24. Medium chain dehydrogenases/reductases : alcohol dehydrogenases of novel types
Abstract : The medium chain dehydrogenase/reductase (MDR) superfamily is separated into at least eight families, of which the dimeric alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is one. Including species variants, close to 1000 MDR forms have been characterized. READ MORE

25. The Membrane Proteome : Evolution, Characteristics and Classification
Abstract : Membrane proteins are found in all kingdoms of life and are essential for cellular interactions with the environment. Although a large research effort have been put into this group many membrane proteins remains uncharacterized, both in terms of function and evolutionary history. READ MORE
