  1. 1. Cancer Immunotherapy : A Preclinical Study of Urinary Bladder Cancer

    Author : Christina Ninalga; Thomas Tötterman; Magnus Essand; Timothy Ratliff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medicine; immunotherapy; bladder carcinoma; cancer; CpG ODNs; Adenoviral vector; CD40L; TRANCE; Lymphotactin; IL2; IL15; Medicin;

    Abstract : Bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG), or attenuated Mycobacterium bovis, is the gold standard of immunotherapy in the clinic to treat superficial bladder cancer. However, setbacks remain due to a high recurrence rate, side effects, and BCG-refractory disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Molecular progression and clonality or urinary bladder cancer

    Author : Jari Louhelainen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The general aim of this work was to investigate the clonality of multifocal bladder tumours, chromosomal deletions and model the initiation-progression of bladder tumours at a molecular level using microsatellite analysis. In a population-based study, we found correlation between stage and grade and the prevalence of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at all observed chromosome 13 loci and stage and grade, respectively. 3. 3. Molecular cytogenetic investigations of chromosomal abnormalities in prostate and urinary bladder cancers

    Author : Yi Pan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : prostate cancer; bladder cancer; FISH; SKY;

    Abstract : Tumorigenesis is suggested to be caused by base pair mutations and chromosomal abnormalities leading to inactivation of tumor suppressor genes an activation of oncogenes. However, still it is not clear for the vast majority of these changes how they contribute to the tumorigenesis of the prostate and bladder cancers. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the role of nitric oxide in bladder cancer and renal cell carcinoma

    Author : Olof T Jansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : urogenital tract; renal cell; transitional cell; carcinoma; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; cytokines; apoptosis; BCG; cystitis;

    Abstract : The role of nitric oxide (NO) in tumour biology is unclear. There are conflicting reports in the literature whether NO will promote or inhibit tumour growth. The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of NO in bladder cancer and renal cell carcinoma. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular changes in the tumour suppressor genes p53 and CDKN2A/ARF in human urinary bladder cancer

    Author : Petra Berggren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Urinary bladder neoplasm is the ninth most common cancer in Europe and the United States. The incidence in Sweden is approximately 32 for men and 9 for women per 105 subjects and year and almost all cases are transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). READ MORE
