1. Light-Triggered Conformational Switches for Modulation of Molecular Recognition : Applications for Peptidomimetics and Supramolecular Systems
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is on photochemical modulation of molecular recognition in various host-guest systems. This involves the design, synthesis and integration of light-triggered conformational switches into peptidomimetic guests and molecular tweezer hosts. READ MORE

2. Application of the 2-Pyridone Hydrogen-Bonding Motif in Supramolecular Catalysis and in Phenanthroline Based Ligands
Abstract : This thesis concentrates on the development, synthesis and evaluation of supramolecular systems, assembled from its components by means of hydrogen bonding, using the self-complementary 2-pyridone motif. The thesis is divided in two parts. READ MORE

3. Multifunctional Supramolecular Organic Ferroelectrics
Abstract : Ferroelectric materials are known and valued for their multifunctionality arising from the possibility to perturb the remnant ferroelectric polarization by electric field, temperature and/or mechanical stimuli. While inorganic ferroelectrics dominate the current market, their organic counterparts may provide highly desired properties like eco-friendliness, easy processability and flexibility, concomitantly opening unique opportunities to combine multiple functionalities into a single compound that facilitates unprecedented device concepts and designs. 4. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing
Abstract : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted. 5. Structural Aspects of Halocuprate and Haloargentate Anions in Supramolecular Systems
Abstract : There is a growing interest in designing and engineering crystals of compounds with desired structures and properties. In this context, a better understanding of the intermolecular interactions present in crystals is of importance and much work is currently being directed towards this goal. READ MORE
