  1. 1. Acoustic Forces in Cytometry and Biomedical Applications: Multidimensional Acoustophoresis

    Author : Carl Grenvall; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustophoresis; Microfluidics; Ultrasound; Multinode; Cell Sorting; Particle Positioning; Cytometry; Lab-on-a-Chip; µTAS; Binary Separation; Acoustic Barriers; Acoustic Particle Manipulation; Acoustic Standing Waves; Blood Separation; Milk Analysis;

    Abstract : Over the last decades the ongoing work in the fields of Lab-on-a-Chip and Micro-Total-Analysis-Systems has led to the discovery of new or improved ways to handle and analyse small volumes of biofluids and complex biosuspensions. The benefits of working on the microscale include: miniaturization of the analysis systems with less need for large sample volumes; temporal and spatial control of suspended particle/cell positions; low volume sheath flow lamination or mixing; novel separation techniques by using forces inherent to the microscale domain; precise regulation of sample temperatures and rapid analysis with less volumes needed to be processed. 2. 2. Nonlinear Interaction Between Ultrasonic Waves and Cracks and Interfaces

    Author : Milan Poznic; Leif Kari; Bruce Drinkwater; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ultrasonic waves; crack; modulation; rough interface; partially closed; surface-breaking; fluid-filled; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the development of new ultrasound inspection techniques for detection of cracks that are smaller than the wavelength of the inspecting wave and the characterization of cracks in fluid-filled pipes as either surface-breaking or subsurface. The spectrum of the scattered field of a partially closed crack comprises harmonic components not expected to be found in the case of linear scatterers such as pores or inclusions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of acoustic waves, noise and charge pumping using single-electron devices

    Author : Martin Gustafsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; single-electron pump; single-electron transistor; surface acoustic wave; single-electron devices; charge pumping; TLF; SINIS turnstile; electrometer; two-level fluctuator; single-photon detector; noise; SAW; SET;

    Abstract : This thesis covers a range of experiments on single-electron devices, electrical circuits that utilize the discreetness of the electron charge. The Single-Electron Transistor (SET) is of special importance among these, being the most sensitive electrometer demonstrated, and sufficiently mature to serve as a building block in sensors and detectors for physical phenomena that can be transformed into charge signals. 4. 4. Nanomechanical Phenomena in Low-Dimensional Structures

    Author : Anton Vikström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superconductivity; acoustic sensors; heat flow; NEMS; surface acoustic waves; solitons; viscoelasticity; electronic edge states;

    Abstract : This is a compilation thesis which investigates various mechanical phenomena in different low-dimensional nanoscale systems. In the first part, we consider a purely mechanical phenomenon: the sensitivity of the dispersion of a Love-type surface acoustic wave (SAW) to geometry and material parameters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Acoustic Platform for MXene Synthesis and Electrochemical Behaviour of i-MXenes in Aqueous Electrolytes

    Author : Ahmed El Ghazaly; Johanna Rosén; Ahmed Etman; Husam N. Alshareef; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface Acoustic Waves; MXene; i-MXene; Supercapacitor;

    Abstract : Climate Change is believed to be the greatest global challenge and on its forefront is the topic of energy. While being of extreme importance, debates over energy have become a normality. READ MORE
